If you are craving new gaming experiences, maybe the first thing to do could be to look to the past instead of the future. Retro games have never been quite as popular as they are today. It’s as if, even though we’re light years ahead of what we could enjoy in the 80s, 90s, and even 70s, many of us still crave the comfort of the simpler worlds of Super Mario, Sonic, and the other heroes of the day. The PlayStation 5 is out, and as expected there is great excitement in the gaming community for it. Many years have passed since we first got our hands on the PlayStation 4, and we’re ready for new hardware to blow us away.

So, we probably don’t need to tell you about the level of disappointment that we’re now experiencing. Many people who were looking forward to the console’s arrival so wholeheartedly found that there simply weren’t the supplies to meet the demand, primarily due to scalping. Even though this could lead to the practice being criminalized in places like the UK, it’s still frustrating – but could have its upside too.

Growing Pains

While the PS5 may be the ultimate new gaming console, without the games to play on it it’s just another piece of hardware cluttering up your room. And there’s a definite shortage of games for it right now. So you might as well wait for the game developers to start bringing out the titles that are really going to use the PS5 to its full capabilities.

What’s more, they’re also likely to be holding back to make sure that their own games are glitch-free before they bring them out having seen the massive embarrassment and expense caused by releasing Cyberpunk 2077 before it was fully ready. With outraged players demanding refunds and questions being asked about how such a high-profile and hotly anticipated game could come to market in such an unfinished state, others will dread the same thing happening to them.

Then there’s the question of the PS5 itself. Even the most carefully designed and thoroughly tested console is likely to have a few teething troubles. Yes, these can often be fixed by downloading patches but there are occasions when there’s a product recall too. Look at the issues with drifting on the Nintendo Switch Joy-cons which continue to plague players. In many ways, a launch period is something of a beta-testing stage when other players will discover those issues, and you’ll be getting your console when they’ve all been ironed out.

Looking for Alternatives

If you are craving new gaming experiences, maybe the first thing to do could be to look to the past instead of the future. Retro games have never been quite as popular as they are today. It’s as if, even though we’re light years ahead of what we could enjoy in the 80s, 90s, and even 70s, many of us still crave the comfort of the simpler worlds of Super Mario, Sonic, and the other heroes of the day.

The good news is that anyone running a PS4 can still enjoy the sorts of entertainment that kept everyone occupied back in the day. All you need to do is head for the Arcade Archives area of the PS Store and you’ll find that you’re truly spoilt for choice. Even more, many of the announced titles for PS5 has already had PS4 versions announced too, like with Resident Evil Village and Horizon: Forbidden West.

Another form of video entertainment that goes back quite a long way is the online casino. It’s also a sector that has evolved as impressively as video gaming. For example, today’s online slots games are far more sophisticated than you might expect. They also have many features in common with video games such as levels to complete and ways to gain bonuses – and some are even based on popular movies or TV shows. There are also hundreds of titles to choose from, so boredom’s not an option.

Another plus is that you don’t even need a console to play on these as all the games are designed to be played on a PC and most have also been optimized for mobile devices. So, hopefully, this has given you a little inspiration to take a little of the wanting out of waiting. Before you know it, you could be getting your hands on your very own PS5.
