Hunt: Awards 

The film Hunt is the directorial debut of Squid Game famed Lee Jung-Jae. Similar to his character in the series, he has left no stone unturned to win the directorial game. According to The New York Times, this espionage film reminds people of the suspenseful works of British novelist John le Carré. It is no wonder that the film has received positive acclaim from critics.

  • Lee Jung-Jae won the Best Film Director and Best Director Debut awards at the 9th Korea Film Producers Awards.
  • Lee also won Best New Director at the 31st Buil Films Awards, Blue Dragon Film Awards, and the 42nd Korea Film Critic Association Awards.
  • Lee Mo-Gae and Lee Seong-Hwa won the Best Cinematography and lighting award at The Blue Dragon Film Awards, Grand Bell Awards, and Korean Film Producers Association Awards.
  • Park Il-Hyeon won The Best Art Direction award at The Korean Film Producers Association Awards and a nomination at Blue Dragon Film Awards, Buil Film Awards, and Grand Bell Awards.
  • The actors of the film, Jung Woo-Sung, Jeon Hae-Jin, and Jo Wo-Jin won Best Actor and Supporting Actors at The Korean Film Producers Association Awards, respectively.

This spy-thriller film has also proven to be a theatrical success with 2 million admissions in one week. It is one of the major hits of 2022 and the 4th highest-grossing film in South Korea.


Hunt depicts fictionalized 1980s Korea facing a political apocalypse as the president of the nation is assassinated. This chaos raises the threat of a North Korean invasion, therefore the Chief of security, Park Pyong-Ho (Lee Jung-Jae), and Kim Jung-Ho (Jung Woo-Sung) must hunt the spies threatening political security.

  • This film has received praise for its unpredictable plot, psychological conflicts that raise tension in the story, bloody-grotesque action sequences, and wry sense of humor. It also features two scenes paying homage to Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma” and Ben Affleck’s “Argo” by debuting director Lee Jung-Jae.
