Wednesday x Enid a thing now? Showrunners reveal plans for season 2

The recently released Netflix series, Wednesday has been dominating the charts since the day it came to the platform. And why won’t that be? Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of dark and morbid Wednesday Addams has been immaculate. The whodunnit aspect of the series keeps the viewers at the edge of their seats till the very end. With the year ending at Nevermore, one question that lots of fans are asking is if Wednesday and Enid are ever going to be a thing.

Which fan theory about Wednesday is being the talk of the town?

Showrunners Al Gough and Miles Miller hinted at their plans for the second season in their recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. They stated that Wednesday’s relationship with people around her will be explored as the second season’s highlight. Wednesday is anything but a social person, which makes her friendship arc with Enid one of the focal points of the show.

Nevertheless, some fan theories suggested that this relationship might go beyond and the two characters might get involved romantically. But it isn’t going to be that simple as per Gough and Miller.

By the way, if you still haven’t watched the first season of Netflix, watch it now because of trust us when we say that you are missing out on some really good TV. Here’s the trailer for Wednesday Season 1:

Are Wednesday and Enid going to be a thing?

  • Showrunner Al Gough, during the interview, said that as a team, they’d love to keep the show running for as long as they can. All they want is for the audience to actually connect and be invested in the unconventional yet relatable characters.
  • There is always a possibility of romantic connections being formed amidst the conflict. The story will reveal itself with the possible upcoming seasons so we can expect budding romances. One such pairing that fans are counting on is off Wednesday and Enid.
  • It was fun to see how the two opposite characters found each other and grew as individuals. Addressing the fan theories, Gough and Miller made it very clear that nothing is off the table and anything can happen till the point it adds something substantial to the story.

“As Al said, this idea of sisterhood is key to the show. We’re not gonna discount anything, and, obviously, sometimes characters reveal themselves, which is the fun thing we love about television, that it’s an organic journey. We have a roadmap, and we’d like to have routes along that map that take you in unexpected directions.

So, we’re open to everything. We wanna explore that friendship in every way, but we’re not gonna be, this is where you sometimes get misdirected by fans and things like that, so it’s just being really open to see how those characters develop and that friendship.

As Al said, that friendship is key to our sort of vision of the show.”, said Miller while talking about the will-they-won’t-they scenario with Wednesday and Enid, which a lot of viewers are hoping as an endgame.

What can be expected from Wednesday Season 2?

  1. The Showrunners were asked what the future holds for the students of Nevermore. Which, they hinted that the relationship dynamics are surely going to get complicated. We can just hope that they might be built upon female friendships as they’re pivotal for the plot.
  2. The mother-daughter relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is another compelling plot line. It is expected to be a journey of acceptance for both of individuals. We’ll be seeing Wednesday as she tries to be her own person, outside her mother’s shadow. During this, Morticia will learn to accept that she and her daughter are two different beings with their own choices.

“For us, the show also is really about this female friendship, with Wednesday and Enid really being at the center of that. The fact that they really connected with audiences, it has been really gratifying. So, we’re excited to explore now that Wednesday’s dipped her toe into the friendship pool, what’s that gonna look like? It’s like, she hugged. That was her big arc for the season, right? So it’s like now, we do that.

Then, the other thing that’s really interesting is to continue to explore the Wednesday-Morticia mother-daughter relationship as well, which now that Morticia knows about the power, has given her sort of an idea of how that’s going to go. How is their relationship going to evolve?” says Gough while addressing the possible developments one would see in the second season of the series.
