Spotlight Hour is a weekly recurring event in Pokemon GO. The event features different Pocket Monsters and allows players to focus on catching them. Shellder Spotlight Hour is taking place this week on April 11, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm local time. The previous week, players participated in Exeggcute Spotlight Hour.
Like other Spotlight Hour events, the Water-type Shellder will spawn in large numbers during the occasion. This monster is Shiny eligible, so players can encounter a Shiny Shellder in the wild. The sad part is that the event doesn’t boost its Shiny rates. Spotlight Hour also features a Bonus for every participant for the event hours. That said, this article focuses on everything you need to know about it.
Shellder and its evolution Cloyster’s abilities in Pokemon GO 2023

Talking about the monster first, originally found in the Kanto region, Shellder is considered a weak catch in Pokemon GO. It closes its shell while sleeping with its distinctive tongue hanging out of it. The monster possesses a max CP of 1221 and Pokemon GO stats of 116 attacks, 134 defenses, and 102 stamina. The cost of evolving Shellder into Cloyster is 50 Shellder Candy.
The Pokemon is boosted by Rainy weather and has Tackle and Bubble Beam as its best moveset. While vulnerable to Electric and Grass-type moves, it is resistant to Fire, Ice, Steel, and Water-type attacks.
For the event duration, trainers can catch multiple Shellder, stocking up candies in the process. The Spotlight Hour also provides a special bonus of 2x Transfer Candy during the event hours.

Since Shellder is not much of a performer in Pokemon GO, let’s focus on its evolution Cloyster. Unlike its pre-evolution, Cloyster is a dual Water and Ice-type fighter with relatively good stats in the game. The dual-type monster can outperform many Pokemon, and it is a catch worth investing in. Making it a motivational factor, fans can stock up on Shellder Candy during the event.
Make use of in-game items like Incense and Lure Modules to further increase the spawn rate of Shellder. Since Shellder’s spawn rate is also boosted by Rain weather, trainers are also advised to go for a Shiny hunt in the areas with such weather conditions.
Overall, this week’s Spotlight Hour provides players to complete their Pokedex with Shellder and gives them a chance to aim for a powerful Cloyster. This is possible if players participate throughout the entire hour. Trainers don’t only need Incense and Lure Modules; they also require to stock up on Pokeballs. It will be unfulfilling if the Pokeballs finish before trainers fulfill their target.
That’s all for the Shellder Spotlight Hour on Pokemon GO. This is your chance to catch ’em all and become a true Pokemon GO master. Ready for this new Season 10: Rising Heroes, trainers?
