Harry Styles made a surprise entry into the MCU in the post-credits scene of the 2021 film Eternals. He appeared in front of the spacefaring members of the Eternals to announce that he was Eros (aka Starfox). Accompanied by Pip the Troll, Eros will likely add more complexity to his film appearances. One of the reasons is that he is the half-brother of Thanos.
Styles’ appearance in the MCU is not a cameo thing but something they’re looking forward to building on in the long term. Marvel executive Nate Moore revealed more projects for him on the way.
Chosen for The Eternals
Aside from embarking on a successful solo singing career, Harry explored numerous options in acting. Not only has he proven to be great at the microphone, but his talents also extend to film. Eternals director Chloe Zhao noted Styles’ appearance in the 2017 Christopher Nolan film Dunkirk. Zhao always looked into who Nolan was casting, and Styles proved to be an interesting character that could portray Eros.
A few calls later and he was already auditioning for the role. Harry has always been open to opportunities, and Marvel is one of the biggest one available to actors.
The Harry Styles MCU Deal
According to Nate Moore, Harry signed a five-year film deal with Marvel worth $100 million. Moore believes there are a lot of stories to tell because of his connection to Thanos. There are also many things they can bring out with his character, with decades of comic book stories available.
There aren’t any Eternals films slated to happen in Phase 5 or 6, but that doesn’t mean he won’t make any appearances soon. He may appear in space-related projects like Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 or Secret Invasion. However, it’s more likely that he will be a part of the culmination of Phase 6’s Avengers films.
Like how Infinity War and Endgame nearly featured the entire cast, Eros could be part of the Kang Dynasty. Appearing in Secret Wars also makes sense, given how the comic story shows a multiverse clash.
For now, Harry has been quiet about any Marvel projects. He continues to act, appearing recently in films such as My Policeman and Don’t Worry Darling.
We’re Near the Phase 5 Kickoff
Phase 5 will start in February with the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The trailers show a more serious take on the film, since it will feature Kang the Conqueror. We’ll then experience the Disney+ Show Secret Invasion and James Gunn’s culmination of his Guardians of the Galaxy. There will also be shows surrounding Echo and Loki Season 2 though the dates are not yet final.
Fans are ready for more interconnectivity and a buildup to a big payoff. Eros will likely appear at some point with so many films under his deal.
