Police said that just before midnight, the child killed her 9-year-old brother in the upstairs bedroom while their mother was asleep and then frightfully flung the knife out the window. The crime’s motivation has not been made public by the police.
A subsequent update, however, indicates that she has been accused of first-degree murder.
What happened to the 12-year-old and her brother?
The stabbing reportedly occurred in the city’s southernmost 1000 block of 64th Place South. When officials arrived on the site, they discovered that the 9-year-old victim was already receiving CPR from paramedics and Tulsa firefighters. They also noticed the stab wounds on the chest of the victim.
The 12-year-old suspect told her mother, April Lyda, that she had stabbed her 9-year-old sibling, prompting Lyda to call the Tulsa Police Department. She was also captured on camera crying and apologizing to her mother and the police as she was being taken away.
The suspect can also be seen leaving the upstairs bedroom and repeatedly shouting, “I’m so sorry,” in the video shared by The Law and Crime Network.
The mother can be heard saying, “How could you stab him?! You better pray to God he’ll make it.”
The 9-year-old boy was rushed to a nearby hospital after the incident. There he was later declared dead at about 2:30 in the morning. Given the victim’s juvenile state, Captain Meulenberg of the Tulsa police described the difficulties experienced by detectives in figuring out the purpose and potential motivations for the suspect’s acts.
The 12-Year-Old’s jail time
The girl’s identity has not been released by the authorities because she is still a minor. Her family has nevertheless issued a statement in which they express their tremendous sorrow over their son’s passing. In this extraordinarily trying time, the authorities have also extended their prayers and thoughts to the victim’s family.
Law enforcement agents were looking into the issue. They were trying to compile all the information and evidence they could about the incident. The juvenile justice system carried out the required legal steps to guarantee a fair and just conclusion.
A new development reveals that she is currently being investigated for first-degree murder. However, information about the 12-year-old’s jail time is yet to be known.
