Abandoned Devs Receive Death Threats Over Game Updates

A series of events in recent times involving Blue Box Game Studios has led to serious circumstances. The developer has received death threats. Beginning in June, rumors of Silent Hill involved development studio Blue Box and its new title, Abandoned.

Blue Box issued a statement that it or its title, Abandoned, did not have any connection to Silent Hill or its developers, Hideo Kojima and Konami.

According to rumors, Abandoned was actually a Metal Gear Solid title. When it was made clear in public that Abandoned and Blue Box had no connection whatsoever to Silent Hill or Metal Gear Solid and that it was an indie title of its own, members of the gaming community who had already accepted the rumors as facts and were way beyond the point of accepting facts became disappointed and angry.

This has led to developers of the Blue Box title, Abandoned, receiving death threats, both online and physically. These threats have been circulating for the past months. Physical threats targeting the developers also unveil the seriousness of the situation Blue Box faces. Blue Box issued a statement on Twitter, asking people to stop making death threats toward the developer team of Abandoned.

“We have been dealing with death threats the past few months and the last few days we have been dealing with it again. Especially physically. This not only affects us as a team but everyone within our environments. Other businesses, families, and everyone surrounding us. We want to work in a safe environment”

Blue Box, in their statement, stated that they have acknowledged the “negative situation” that they have created, but that death threats are uncalled for, affecting all members and the environment in which they work.

While Blue Box had not intended to mislead fans in any way and had no connections to the rumors that went around, it is disheartening to see them face such consequences, and that too from the very same community to whom they are dedicated to delivering exciting content and games.
