There are several video games being adapted into movies in recent times. This trend is surely going to continue in the future, maybe at an even higher scale. We have come to know about several titles being planned, though they are some way off in the future. In related news, Amazon has signed a deal with dj2 Entertainment.
The Deal
The dj2 Entertainment company holds several IPs of video games, with which it can, and is, adapting them into shows and movies. It was also co-producer of Sonic the Hedgehog movie. It is also currently in creating an animated series based on the Tomb Raider series for Netflix.
Amazon has reportedly signed a “first-look deal” with dj2. In effect, this means that Amazon will now be able to get the first look at all of dj2’s ventures. It can choose whether these shows and movies will be released on the Prime Video platform or not. There are also plans to create new shows adapted from games that will be exclusive to Amazon’s streaming platform.
“I cannot express enough just how excited we are to be working with the powerhouse team at dj2 Entertainment. Their expertise and skill in the gaming-to-screen market are unparalleled. The possibilities are endless for what we can create together for our global audiences”
– Nick Pepper, Amazon Studio Creative Content Head
The @dj2Ent team is thrilled to announce @AmazonStudios & @PrimeVideo as our platform partner. We’ve always said that dj2 is an international company since so many of our partners are all over the world, so with Amazon as our partner those words have never rang truer. https://t.co/1CDERpLqVt

d2j Entertainment has acquired IPs for quite a number of popular games.
It has struck partnerships with several developers. Games such as It Takes Two, Disco Elysium, Little Nightmares, and Life is Strange. Sable and Norco have also been added to this list, after d2j’s very recent agreement with Raw Fury.
Amazon and other streaming platforms are always looking for more ways to bring in more and more customers. But it has been getting harder each year, as the number of platforms keeps increasing, and more and more partnerships are being made.
Now, another platform, Binge, has also joined the competition. Binge has also made some significant partnerships with big players in the gaming industry, such as Ubisoft. It is surely going to bring some competition to Amazon and Netflix in the gaming adaptation area.
