Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Could Be a PG13 Game of Thrones With Much More Fantasy

Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Could Be a PG13 Game of Thrones With Much More Fantasy

Now that the first official teaser for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings is out, its popularity is slowly rising. Within no time it would one of the most anticipated and popular shows out there. So, why not get on the hype train with us already? The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power is Amazon’s biggest leap in the cinematic world yet.

The epic fantasy series has a lot to prove given how groundbreaking the original trilogy was. The LOTR trilogy was so epic, that most of today’s cinema still can’t match its scale, production value, and character interpretations. That is one reason why it has never been recreated nor will be. So, this 5 season prequel web series with a massive budget for $1 Billion has a tough battle ahead but it will surely be a glorious one.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series is a prequel to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Peter Jackson’s LOTR and Hobbit films take place in the 3rd age of Middle Earth whereas Amazon’s LOTR series will take place in the 2nd age. It is a project which is envisioned to last up to 5 seasons and 2 seasons are already confirmed by Amazon.

The production of The Lord of the Rings season 1 has been wrapped and it is in the post-production stage. As ambitious as this project is, it will take some time to wrap the editing and mixing part. Due to the pandemic, it has taken some hits and that is why it has been delayed. Earlier it was supposed to release in January 2022 but now has been delayed to 2nd September 2022.

Season 2 of the series is already confirmed by Amazon as well. The production for the same will begin sometime in June or July this year. So, we’ll be travelling to the world of J.R.R. Tolkien a lot in the coming few years.

The Next Game of Thrones?

Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Production, Release, and Characters

Ever since Game of Thrones ended, most people are waiting for the “next Game of Thrones” like series. People have been trying to find the nest GOT in The Witcher, The Last Kingdom, and even Vikings. While Game of Thrones’ final season itself couldn’t match the GOT people liked, we are pretty sure LOTR might just be that. In my honest opinion, I liked Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy a little better than GOT. While its foolish to compare shows with one another, it definitely happens.

So, by “will it be the next GOT”, if you mean that will it provide that kind of immersive experience, VFX, characters, and a massive atmosphere? Then the answer is yes it will! With that kind of budget and source material, nothing less is expected. But LOTR isn’t a dark fantasy story with lots of grey areas like Game of Thrones. Tolkein’s LOTR has a strong sense of good and evil, so if you expect dark subject matters, watch The Witcher instead.

LOTR is a simple magical fantasy world with elves, dwarves, wizards, magical beasts, orcs, and superpowered beings. And though it will have conspiracies, death, and war, its unlikely they will be presented as they are in dark fantasy stuff. That is one of the reasons we believe it will be rated PG13 and not R. So, unless Amazon plans on presenting a dark version of Tolkien’s writing, I doubt it’ll be the next “Game of Thrones” in the terms of mood and vibe. But it might be much better than Game of Thrones in terms of scale, fantasy, and technicalities with white and black characters, rather than grey ones.
