World’s highest grossing, most-played and widely loved mobile MOBA – Arena of Valor, will be a part of the Asian Games 2018. Along with it, the world’s leading MOBA League of Legends, Supercell’s brainwasher Clash Royale and the concentrated gamer’s ideal card game Hearthstone are going to be a part of the Asian Games 2018 Jakarta as well.
The Asian Esports Federation (AeSF) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) decided on a total of six videogames – Arena of Valor, Pro Evolution Soccer (2019 probably), League of Legends, Hearthstone, Starcraft II and Clash Royale.
Many esport dedicated organisations have been discussing the inclusion of esports for years. Following many talks, discussions and panels, Asian Games are considering esport titles for the first time.
However, the esport events will be demonstration-only and will not be included in the overall medals tally. These events will be considered full medal events from the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
For the esports category, 45 nations will be participating in the regional qualifiers, of which, eight teams will be selected for the main rounds, scheduled for late August. India will be an active participant as well, thanks to Esports Federation of India.
It’d be interesting to watch the pros go live from the panels of one of the biggest sports events in the world.
