Baldur’s Gate 3 allows players to create powerful character builds by multiclassing – combining multiple classes on one character. With the freedom to mix and match classes, you can build unique hybrids to take on the dangers of the Forgotten Realms your way. This guide will cover everything you need to know about how to multiclass in Baldur’s Gate 3.
What is Multiclass in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Multiclassing gives you the option to gain levels in multiple classes rather than being restricted to a single class. For example, you could start as a Level 1 Fighter and then multiclass as a Level 2 Wizard on your next level up rather than continuing with Fighter.
This allows you to blend the features and abilities of different classes to create versatile characters. A Fighter/Wizard could use martial weapons and armor along with powerful magic. The downside is that multiclassing results in fewer high-level features since you are spreading out levels between classes.
When Can You Multiclass?
Multiclassing unlocks after reaching Level 2 on your starting class. When you level up again, you will see the option to multiclass by clicking on the class icon in the level-up menu. This will let you select a new class to multiclass into at 1st level.
You can alternate between leveling your old and new classes. The level cap is still 12, so your combined class levels can’t exceed 12.
Respec Your Multiclass
If you want to completely redo your multiclass, you can re-spec your character. Find Withers and pay 100 gold to reset your class choices. You can then recreate your class from Level 1.
This is great if you want to experiment with different multiclass combinations. Respeccing lets you revise your build without restarting your character!
Class Combinations to Try
Some powerful multiclass options based on what we know about BG3 so far include:
- Fighter/Rogue: Excellent melee damage and skills
- Wizard/Cleric: Potent divine and arcane magic
- Ranger/Fighter: Ranged combat and defense
- Warlock/Sorcerer: Eldritch magic blaster
- Monk/Rogue: Mobile striker and evasion
Mix and match classes that cover your weaknesses or enhance your strengths. Get creative finding combinations that match your playstyle!
The Pros and Cons of Multiclass
Multiclassing allows amazing character customization and synergistic combinations. However, spreading out levels means delaying later-tier class features.
For example, a Level 6 Fighter could take an Extra Attack to strike twice per turn. But a Level 3 Fighter/Level 3 Wizard would be delayed getting that feature. Overall, multiclassing opens up many new possibilities for your character builds in Baldur’s Gate 3.
