Biomutant Recovered Production Cost Just 1 Week After Release

One of the incidents that took the gaming industry by surprise recently is that Biomutant not only sold over one million copies but also recovered its developmental cost within just a week’s time.

The numbers were revealed by publisher THQ Nordic’s parent company Embracer in their Q1 2021 interim reports. Given the rocky start that the game experienced, this has been very good news for THQ Nordic and Embracer indeed.

Embracer Group stated that the title was the “main revenue driver” during the Q1 of 2021; also stating that “so far the game has sold more than 1 million copies.”

Biomutant Release

Biomutant, an open-world adventure game developed by internal studio Experiment 101 and published by THQ Nordic was released on May 25th. Talks about the game had been polarized prior to its release; involving a number of critics and an equal number of fans.

Some players were also unsatisfied with the gameplay aspects such as the combat and narration. Whatever it may be, it got people talking about it and the result has been an overwhelming sales rate.

The debut saw more than 55,000 simultaneous players on Steam and was seen on the list of the best-selling games in the UK and Japan. With the current success rate, it can be predicted this might result in a sequel sometime soon, but before that, we will have to wait and see how the game gets better as updates are rolled out.

Embracer Group has made heavy investments lately in the video game market, purchasing several companies and studios. Notable companies and studios like 3D Realms that were behind Duke Nukem are under Embracer Group now. This has added more excitement about the future of games under Embracer Group, and what do we know, we just might get more exciting titles to entertain us!
