With its absurd idea of egotism, Blue Lock captured the hearts of many Shonen fans and Football lovers. The popularity of the manga was further alleviated with the anime adaptation. Coming out in the same year as FIFA World Cup 2018, helped the manga in gaining traction as well. Besides all these coincidental causes, the art style and the story of Blue Lock complement each other well. A perfect example of this is the dramatic representation of Isagi’s thought process.
When it comes to popular series like Blue Lock, spin-offs are no surprise. Spin-offs help the fans get an extended view of the world of their favorite anime. The numerous characters in Blue Lock give enough creative space to expand the universe. An attempt at this expansion is the upcoming movie, Blue Lock: Episode Nagi.
“Blue Lock: Episode Nagi” – What will it be about
Blue Lock: Episode Nagi is a spin-off series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Kato Sannomiya. Episode Nagi retells the story of Blue Lock’s first selection from the perspective of Seishiro Nagi. We were first introduced to him during the first selection. The spin-off uses the rewind effect to dwell on his past and what led to that specific match against Isagi.
This spin-off series is getting adapted into a movie called “Blue Lock: Episode Nagi”. The movie will come out in Japan in the Spring season of 2024. 8bit Studio is at the helm for the animation production of the series.
Why Nagi?
Blue Lock has an abundance of cool characters. Then why was Seishiro Nagi the correct choice for a spin-off? Just one glance at Nagi’s journey answers this question for any Blue Lock fan. Nagi was the first checkpoint in Isagi’s journey. Up until that point, nobody challenged Isagi with that much difference in ability.
Even for Nagi, meeting Reo and Isagi changed his life. Seishiro Nagi was the first antagonist we got to know in the story. Even besides what he means for the other Blue Lock players, as an individual Nagi is a ‘genius’. His monstrous physical abilities and the egotist urge to grow using others make him an intriguing character to follow.
While other characters spell out their every thought, Nagi barely even speaks. When he becomes the main character, it’ll be interesting to see what his inner monologues look like. His quiet personality leaves a lot to be explored.
Conclusion
Besides Nagi, there are a lot of characters who could have a story of their own. Barou easily tops the list of characters like that.
In the upcoming movie ‘Blue Lock: Episode Nagi’, we’ll get to see Nagi as the main character. But we’ll also get to see Isagi as a side character. Will the movie succeed in portraying Isagi as a convincing side character? We’ll find out together once we engage in this shift of perspective with the Blue Lock boys.
