BPI 0431 Debit Memo 1

Just recently, there is a huge fuss going on in the internet. One of the biggest banks in the Philippines, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), seems to be going under major problems. Every user have shared that their is a sudden deduction on their accounts under the name of “0431 Debit Memo”. It’s currently the most trending topic on Twitter in the Philippines. But, what is this 0431 Debit Memo and why is this happening to all of the BPI users?

Just an hour ago, BPI released a statement on Twitter regarding the glitch on their system.

Advisory: “Some ATM, CAM deposits, POS and e-commerce debit transactions from December 30 to 31, 2022 were posted twice. We are already working to reverse the duplicate transactions. Rest assured that your account is safe and secure. Thank you,” BPI said in a statement.

Although BPI gave an assurance that everyone’s accounts are safe, customers are still enraged with the problem. To top it all off, BPI’s mobile app is currently “unaccessible” as of 9:24 a.m.

What is the cause behind the 0431 Debit Memo?

According to the advisory released by BPI, there have been numerous duplicate transactions from all over the country. Although the real reason behind all of this isn’t announced, some of its customers have experienced more than just the alleged transactions. Netizens have shared that some of them experienced unauthorized withdrawals and questionable charges/fees. The glitch, as what customers called it, may be a result of some technical errors from last year.

Take note that not everyone has the same deductions. Others may have experience minor losses while others may have lost thousands of Pesos. Regardless, BPI users are still on the lookout when the bank would complete the reversal of the glitch.

From the air traffic outage to the BPI fiasco, it’s a very “glitchy” and “bumpy” start of 2023 for the Philippines.

Just four days in, but Philippines is already experiencing back-to-back economic problems.
