Can Axar Patel Match the 133-Old Record In Bengaluru Test?

Axar Patel has a chance to equal 133 old record in Test

The Ahmedabad-based leg spinner, Axar Patel has made a comeback to the Indian squad after a gap of three months. He last featured for team India in the two-match Test series against New Zealand. Now if he gets a chance to play in Bengaluru then Axar Patel will have a chance to equal 133-old record in Test cricket.

The record of fastest 50 wicket mark in Test cricket was achieved by Australian Charles Turner in the year 1880. He had taken only 6 Test matches to reach the milestone. No one has broken this record since 1880. But Axar Patel has the potential to equal the 133-old record.

Big Challenge For Axar Patel

Axar Patel has a fabulous start to his career.  He made his debut in Test in 2021 against England. Patel took a total of 27 wickets in that series which helped India to bounce back in the home series.

After this brilliant performance, he was included in the Indian Test squad against New Zealand where he again took a fifer in the first innings of the first Test in Kanpur. But in the next three innings, he produced only 4 wickets. Currently, Axar has a total of 36 wickets after 5 Test matches.

Now, Axar is in a great position to become the fastest bowler to the 50-wicket mark in Test cricket. He needs to pick up only 14 wickets in his next Test match to equal the record.

Picking up 14 wickets in the next Test match wouldn’t be an easy task. This will be a great challenge for the young man because Ashwin and Jadeja, are in a squad that is known for picking up wickets in home conditions.

The only player who reached closer to equal or breaking this record was South Africa’s Vernon Philander who reached the 50-wicket mark in his 7th Test.
