Cosplay Mania recently held the Cosplay Carnival. It is a 2-day event last April 30 and May 1 at the SMX Convention Center Manila. Anime fans, enthusiasts, and cosplayers excitedly attended the long-awaited event. This was the first mass cosplay event/convention since the lockdown in March 2020 due to the pandemic.
The event took place under Alert Level 1 Guidelines of the IATF of the Philippines. There are no restrictions in terms of capacities in mass gatherings. However, the event organizers limited the participants to 3,000 attendees.
ID, vaccination card, temperature check, and wearing of face masks are the basic requirements for the event. Additional protocols in terms of security for people with large bags and gun props went through inspection before entering the convention.
Here is the official event map and exhibitor list. A.K.A. If you were not able to attend, here is an overview of what you missed. 😀
Genshin Impact Cosplayers
Here are some more things you missed. Genshin Impact Cosplays were almost the theme of the convention. The game has 48 playable characters and a bunch of cosplay-worthy NPCs. It has been popular since its release in September of 2020 and it obviously shows in this year’s Cosplay Carnival.
Here are some Genshin Impact cosplay photos taken during the event:
Well, this one is pretty candid from our cosplayers.
Cosplay Mania Back to Basics
- The event has its fair share of things that needs improvement, especially on the Day 1 of the event. There were long queues in the ticketing station which causes the irate crowd to chant “refund” while standing in line.
- Organizers addressed the volume of fans on Day 2 by stopping selling tickets and adjusting their logistical procedures such as early air conditioning, additional entrance points, adjusting entrance time schedules, and handing out refunds for those who were not able to attend the event. Here is the refund link.
Despite being in the business for quite some time, Cosplay Mania and its staff realized that proper logistics and backup plans are the make and break of an event like this. Although adjustments and improvements were made after the mishap, there were those who traveled long distances and were not able to attend the event due to the mishap. But, hey! Asia Pop Comic-Con (APCC) Asia 2019 happened. I will leave it at that. 😀
’till next time and hoping to see you at the next event!
