The bus carrying the Sri Lankan squad from their accommodation to the venue was reported to have two unfired bullets. The bus was selected from a private transporter, Tara Brothers, Sector 17.
According to reports, the bus was recently hired for a wedding. It is possible that the shells belonged to the event because they were fired as a celebratory act at the wedding reception. In spite of this, the police in Chandigarh have remained on high alert.
Reports claim that Sri Lankan players were to be transported by bus from their Chandigarh hotel to PCA. The bus was parked on the hotel property at the time of the bullet shells recovery.
“Two empty bullet shells were found during the routine frisking of the bus through the metal detector and other sophisticated gadgets. The shells were found in the luggage compartment of the bus. Prior to ferrying the cricket players, the bus had been used in a marriage function a few days back,” a police officer attached with the security wing said in an interview with the Indian Express.
The Police have lodged a Daily Diary Register at IT Park police station. No FIR has been registered so far. Moreover, a team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Sector 36, was called and the empty shells were handed over to the forensic team for further examination. More information and details will be revealed by the police after a proper investigation.
