Danai Gurira has teased the possibility of a Disney+ spin-off series for her Marvel character, Okoye.
The 44-year-old Black Panther actress was questioned about the speculations of a spin-off series, which might have her as the main lead. The rumor arose when she appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Gurira initially seemed reluctant to divulge anything, but eventually gave in and told Colbert, “I have been told that I can gently allude to this possibility.”
Danai Gurira allegedly confirms Marvel spin-off in the works for Disney+
On Friday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, actor and playwright Danai Gurira teased the prospect of a Disney+ series about her character of devoted Wakandan bodyguard and fan-favorite fighter.
“Stephen… I have been told that I can gently allude to this possibility. So, I am gently alluding. Just gently.”
Meanwhile, on the red carpet of the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 12, Danai Gurira dazzled onlookers in a Jason Wu-designed black evening gown. She hinted that there would be a Marvel Studios spin-off series centered on the actress’ breakout role, responding to positively to reports.
She mostly kept quiet when questioned by Entertainment Tonight on the Oscars red carpet, but did offer a “vague” update.
When asked by a reporter, she said, “I have been told I can speak of it vaguely so I will vaguely respond. Yes. There’s my response.”
Clearly, the show is already in motion! However, not much has been known about it and a lot of it remains a mystery. We can anticipate its debut as a part of the Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so we should see it around 2025 based on the shows that have previously been revealed.
Beyond Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel Studios is fervently committed to continuing the story of Wakanda, the technologically superior African nation, and its heroes.
According to the rumors, Disney Plus will shortly roll out a spin-off series featuring Okoye as she transforms into a “Midnight Angel,” battling Namor’s men with incredible tenacity, and rescuing Everett K. Ross from an arrest that was brought on with the help of the people of Wakanda.
Gurira made her debut in the 2018 Black Panther as Okoye, a general of the Dora Milaje, the personal bodyguards of Wakanda’s King. In Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), she returned to the character.

In Wakanda Forever, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) fired her from the Dora Milaje for failing to defend Shuri (Letitia Wright) against Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejia) and the Talokan soldiers.
Devastated by the rejection, Okoye started living as a citizen, although she briefly returned for the film’s final battle in a new suit created by Shuri, bringing with her the Midnight Angels from Roxane Gay and Alitha Martinez’s comic series Black Panther: World of Wakanda. This official appearance of the Midnight Angels from the comic series has led some fans to speculate that the new series could be based on the group.
