The Game Awards 2022 takes place today and aside from recognizing the top titles and individuals in the world of gaming right now, the event is loaded with exciting announcements. One of the announcements during the pre-show awards excited and definitely took the gaming community by surprise. Going back to their roots, Dead Cells is getting a Castlevania DLC, and here’s everything we know so far about this crossover. Stay with us!

New Dead Cells DLC has players ‘Return to Castlevania’

Dead Cells is arguably one of the biggest action-platformer games to date. It’s just something about the pixel-like graphics to the hack-and-slash gameplay that makes it enjoyable. When Dead Cells first came out, it didn’t shy away from the fact that the game takes a lot of inspiration from Castlevania. For the unacquainted, Castlevania is a horror action-adventure game. Since its release in 1986, Castlevania has become a truly iconic title that any true gamer should experience at least once in their lives.

  • Motion Twin and Evil Empire are releasing the biggest DLC for Dead Cells yet. More information has been posted on Dead Cells’ official Steam page. According to its description, the Return to Castlevania DLC introduces “an imposing warrior called Richter.” He enlists the player’s help to help him defeat the evil in the gateway leading to a mysterious castle

  • Since we’re talking about Dead Cells, our character’s motivation isn’t to help this mysterious figure called Richter. Instead of helping out of a moral desire to help, what drives our character to say yes to Richter is the temptation of loot you may find inside

What to expect in Return to Castlevania DLC

New characters, weapons, loot, and even a new storyline are some of the things players can expect from Dead Cells’ most ambitious DLC to date. If you’ve already played Castlevania before trying out Dead Cells, you’ll recognize Richter Belmont and Alucard in the trailer that premiered during The Game Awards 2022.

  • The DLC features over 14 new weapons and items. Although they are new to Dead Cells, these items come directly from Castlevania so expect a blast of nostalgia when you get this DLC next year! Some of the new weapons include the iconic Vampire Killer and the Cross. Motion Twin and Evil Empire have reinvented how these weapons work for Dead Cells, as they want to give justice to Castlevania and its legacy
  • Players will also get to explore two new biomes in the Return to Castlevania DLC. One of the biomes featured in the announcement trailer is Dracula’s Castle. We expect that this is where you have to slay the evil Richter told you about. It’s unclear whether this will be where you will square off against Dracula himself, but expect a tough challenge in this biome! Aside from Dracula, you will fight Death himself but don’t fret, exciting loot awaits any player who manages to overcome these challenges
