In 2010, games like Call of Duty Zombies, Left 4 Dead 2, and The Walking Dead were hugely popular. Evidently, with Dying Light 2’s excellent sales figures, the appeal of unique zombie games appears to be still high.

Critics were split on the game, with many mentioning gameplay flaws and technological issues, yet it nevertheless sold well, with over 5 million copies sold.

The first trailer released for Dead Island 2 was in 2014, teasing the sequel to the popular zombie game Dead Island, which was in 2011. Other games in the Dead Island franchise, such as Dead Island: Riptide, have been available. But a mainline sequel has yet to be released.

Many people are wondering where the announced sequel to Dead Island is because the Dying Light series offers a comparable open single-player experience.

Since 2014, news on Dead Island 2 has been scarce, with the exception of infrequent confirmations from publisher Deep Silver that the game is still in development. The game has gone through several creators, but it currently appears like the game is on pace for a release, as recent reports have claimed that production on Dead Island 2 is doing well.

The company in charge of Deep Silver, Embracer Group, recently had an equity meeting where the company was to answer about the game’s status. “I can’t talk about Dead Island 2 because it’s not announced as such from the publisher,” Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors said.

Dead Island 2 Release Date Timeframe

While the conversation did not directly confirm anything, it did hint that Dead Island 2 is on the way. All that is needed now is a confirmation from publisher Deep Silver.

The schedule of Dead Island 2 is sometime between late 2022 and early 2023, according to industry insider Tom Henderson, ending a nine-year wait for many fans. Given the recent popularity of Dying Light 2, Dead Island 2 will almost certainly need to differentiate itself from the first game.
