Deadpool 3: New details confirm fan theory

Many fans are excited about Deadpool 3 because we finally see Ryan Reynolds in an MCU setting. Not only that, but many weren’t expecting the return of Hugh Jackman, who is likely to reprise his Wolverine for at least one film before truly hanging it up. There have been many discussions as to how this film is possible, given that Wolverine died in the Fox continuity’s Logan.

With that said, Deadpool is always one to break the rules, time-traveling himself during Deadpool 2. A recent interview with Jackman confirms some details that were previously only conjecture for fans. Here’s what we know:

The Continuity

Following the reveal of Deadpool 3 and Hugh Jackman’s involvement, Ryan Reynolds went on social media to address some of the questions fans had. While he didn’t give much detail yet, he did confirm that the film will not touch anything about Logan. They want to preserve and honor the film as Hugh Jackman wanted it to be the sendoff for the character.

With that said, there are a lot of vehicles Marvel can use. The existence of the multiverse means you can have variants or other universes with a Jackman Wolverine. There’s also an argument for the entire Fox universe existing, meaning they can always take the actors from the films to place them in MCU projects. One example was Patrick Stewart’s appearance as Professor X in Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness.

In a recent interview, Hugh Jackman confirmed that there’s a lot of flexibility. They’ll likely be moving around timelines, indicating that there will be a time travel factor in Deadpool 3. It’s the way they’ll get his character to participate in the new film without harming Logan. He also likes how Logan ended and wants to keep it that way.

Hugh Jackman has indicated that if he returns to the character, it would be because he’s now under the Marvel umbrella. Deadpool 3 is the perfect chance for it to happen.

The Possibilities are Endless

Interestingly, it was Jackman who approached Ryan Reynolds, wanting to reprise the character. Reynolds admitted he was surprised to hear the proposition, given that he’d been asking his friend for a long time and always got a no. Hugh is excited about the project and wants to see where this new direction can take him. They’ll probably have more freedom and a higher budget in the MCU.

Some fans suggest that Hugh’s Wolverine is not a one-off deal. He may likely play the character heading into Secret Wars. From there, it will be a passing of the torch moment, where he can retire the character and pass it on to a younger Wolverine.

With the MCU, no one can tell. Kang is the evident big bad right now, but they might do a swerve in Secret Wars, given how the comics played out. Many new characters will appear on our screen, beginning with Phase 5’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
