Legendary Shards are one of the most essential features in Destiny 2. It is required to give you access to most of the things in-game. For now, you may think acquiring this precious item is hard. Set your worries aside; in this article, we are going to delve into how to get legendary shards in Destiny 2 and how to farm them! Let’s get to it!
What are Destiny 2 Legendary Shards
Legendary Shards are one of the primary currencies in Destiny 2. Legendary Shards are required for almost everything and may be obtained by disassembling legendary and exotic-rarity gear. They can be used to acquire Trials Passages, Masterwork materials, and Upgrade Modules.
No matter how frequently you play Destiny 2, you will need a collection of Legendary Shards to make things go well with you. Fortunately, there are a few methods to get Legendary Shards quickly.
Vault Cleaning
When you think about all the work that needs to be done to get the Legendary Shards, you might feel overwhelmed. Lucky for you, there is a really simple way to get many shards and, at the same time, organize your vault. Yes, this method only requires you to open your vault and dismantle some items.
- You earn three Legendary Shards per item when you dismantle weapons and armor.
- You will get four if you have the paid Season Pass and are at a certain level.
- 300 weapons and armor pieces from your vault must be dismantled to get 900 Legendary Shards, or 1,200 if you own the current season.
- Because Legendaries appear so regularly in Destiny 2, most players can do this once or twice a season to build up a collection of Legendary Shards.
This method is convenient for players who have been playing a lot of Destiny 2. You might want to try this one out for those who inevitably hoard lots of weapons and armor in their vault.
Those who like fashion and often hoard their armor in the vault to use only for visuals can do this method, too, as there is a feature called Transmog.
Ritual Activities
While individual Legendary Shard farms come and go, ritual actions, whether it’s Crucible, Gambit, or Vanguard Ops, remain one of the most dependable methods of earning them.
- Ritual activities grant you shards in various ways.
- The first option is for the activities to drop the shards promptly (typically 1-4 per completion).
- They also drop legendary weapons that you may then dismantle to get extra shards.
- You’ll also be raising your vendor rank the entire time, which is an excellent bonus. As a result, you will be able to take possession of even more legendary items.

To increase your reputation, maintain a streak inside an activity playlist. Beyond that, look for double reputation weeks for a specific playlist. Keep an eye out for the “Next Week in Destiny” login prompts because these are not on any map. If a double reputation week is in effect, extra rep gains will also be shown as a modifier in playlists.
Umbral Engrams
Although lower in frequency compared to ordinary Legendary Engrams, Umbral Engrams can be acquired from almost all activities in Destiny 2. Players can choose to focus these Engrams at the H.E.L.M. to obtain specialized weapons, high-stat armor, and other rewards. They can also decrypt them at Rahool to capture additional Legendary items.
Rewards from Umbral Engrams can then be dismantled to receive more Legendary Shards.
