GreedFall which is due for release in September was teased two years ago. Only recently has developer Spiders started to spin out videos on PlayStation’s official youtube channel. An official release date announcement trailer was uploaded on PlayStation’s YouTube channel on 11th July.
A few minutes ago PlayStation uploaded a video miniseries which follows the development procedure of the game. The developers’ diary focuses on the many aspects of the game, one where questions about the genre are clarified. GreedFall is to be a diverse RPG with great emphasis on exploration in a world that is uniquely designed and exclusive to the game only. Cyril Tahmassebi, art director for Spiders, confirmed that the game heavily draws inspiration from the 17th-century which is not represented correctly in video games most of the time. That includes art, paintings, architecture, music and style.
GreedFall is an exploration RPG game where the protagonist embarks on a journey with his cousin to a newly discovered island to find a cure for their mother who is ill and dying of a disease called Malichor. Finding a cure for this disease ravaging the old continent and a few other things will be the main driver and primary goal of the players. The world of GreedFall is an unusual blend of a 17th-century environment and a fantasy realm where the player will encounter various creatures of the wild. The aim is to not make the game a carbon copy of 17th-century life, rather serve as an inspiration for building a world that invites players to “dream, explore and discover a totally new universe”. The island is being designed with the help of collated information obtained from accounts of various tribes.
