After being rescued by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), the Gungan named Jar Jar played a major role in the film. However, the character faced severe criticism from both fans and critics and had significantly smaller roles in the film’s two sequels.

  • Jar Jar has been frequently cited as the worst character in Star Wars and criticized for his goofy appearance and personality. The character’s negative reception became so overwhelming that Best received death threats and even contemplated suicide.

“The depression hit me. Hard. I was just broken. The only thing I could think of to make me feel better was to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. But this time when I walked across the bridge, I didn’t see the lights of Manhattan. I didn’t see the towers [or] the potential of hard work and ingenuity. I didn’t see anything; just saw a fog.”

“I felt tired of having to explain myself and tired of having to defend myself and defend my work. I felt tired of having to fight back against racism and the racial stereotypes. I just wanted to play a part. I was exhausted.”

Said Ahmed Best in the following interview.

Best’s message on social media hinted that Beq may make another appearance in The Mandalorian, particularly if Grogu’s backstory is further explored through flashbacks.
