Marvel does it again by releasing a new trailer for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. While the first trailer was exciting, the second one amps it up by giving us more teasers of what’s to come. The biggest reveal here was the part where Stephen Strange finds himself in front of a shadowy group of people looking down on him. Then we hear the line: “We should tell him the truth.”
If that voice sounds familiar, it’s because it is. We hear the voice of Patrick Stewart, likely reprising his role as Charles Xavier from the Fox X-Men films. Whether it is him or a variant of him is yet to be revealed, but with a multiversal threat looming, it seems that we will get the first glimpse of the MCU’s Illuminati.
Who Are The Illuminati?
The Illuminati is a secretive organization consisting of the smartest and strongest superheroes. They banded together to stop threats that could potentially end the world. The first time they did it in the books was to stop the Kree-Skrull war.

However, one of the most significant runs in recent memory was before Secret Wars 2015. In this series, they had to stop multiple universes from colliding with one another, sacrificing a few in the process.
Which Illuminati Members Will Appear?
There have been many iterations of the Illuminati in the comics. Doctor Strange the Multiverse of Madness seems to be going for the original members. The trailer also gives us a few hints of the other members of what looks to be a 6 to 7 member group.
Iron Man
In the shot before Doctor Strange faces the council, we see him escorted by what looks like Ultrons that have designs reminiscent of Iron Man suits. It’s leading people to believe that the Illuminati has a Tony Stark variant with them. The color of these suits also suggests that we may see Superior Iron Man.
There have been rumors that Marvel reached out to Tom Cruise, who was one of the original considerations for Iron Man. If it is him, it’s not unusual, as we’ve already seen big-ticket actors in the MCU.
Namor
In the shot where Doctor Strange faces the silhouetted council, we see one of its members walking to the center. He noticeably has a spear-like weapon behind him. That is a big clue indicating that we may see the first appearance of Namor, the Submariner. It makes sense since the Atlantean is a mutant, and he’s with Professor X.

Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic
It’s unlikely that we’ll see Reed Richards here as Kevin Feige and his group is preparing for a reboot of Fantastic 4. However, there is a possibility that we may see a variant here. It may also be a way to preview Reed before he goes into a film that focuses more on the Fantastic 4.
Black Bolt
Marvel has had intentions to bring the Inhumans to the big screen, though they later shelved it. One big issue with Black Bolt back then was he was too powerful compared to the heroes in the early phases. However, with phase 4 ramping everything up, bringing Black Bolt is possible.
What’s Next?
It’s important to note that Doctor Strange is a member of the Illuminati in the comics. We also see shots of him wearing his Defenders uniform. That may be a variant of Strange’s new costume with the Illuminati.
Here’s to hoping we see a Scarlet Witch and Magneto moment in the film. Maybe even a Quicksilver and Polaris? How about a Deadpool cameo in the post-credits?
