The latest update of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree introduces new characters, weapons, and an intriguing game lore. Among the early NPCs that you will come across is Sir Ansbach who used to be Lord Mohg’s servant and is now a follower of Miquella.
Ansbach’s sudden change in loyalty marks a significant narrative turn and completing his questline is both interesting and essential for understanding the lore of Shadow of the Erdtree.
How to start the Sir Ansbach questline in Elden Ring
To start the questline, you need to pay a visit to Hornsent first at the Three-Path Cross site of grace. Hornsent will give you a map containing locations for Miquella’s crosses which is important for the journey. It is optional to complete Hornsent’s questline before talking to Sir Ansbach.
Head towards the Miquella’s cross to the west near Belurat, where you will encounter Sir Ansbach for the first time along with another NPC in full armor. Talking to Ansbach, you may realize that there are actually six Miquella crosses rather than the three shown on Hornsent’s map.
Start your search and locate all of Miquella’s crosses. Once the search is completed, return to Ansbach and interact with him to share your findings. This will unlock additional lore about Miquella and the significance of the crosses.
Visit the Three-Path Cross site of grace again, and to the north of the Gravesite plain, you will meet Redmane Freyja. Interact with Freyja to know more about her quest involving Miquella’s vow with General Radahn.
Where to find Sir Ansbach in the Shadow Keep
Your next location will be to head towards the Shadow Keep. Make sure you visit Freyja first on the seventh floor of the Storehouse, where you will find her busy with her work. Interact with her till all her dialogues are exhausted.
Head to the first floor, find Ansbach, interact with him and he will hand you a letter for Freyja. Ensure that the letter is delivered to her and exhaust all her dialogues to claim the Golden Lion Shield.
Now you need to locate the Secret Rite Scroll from the Storehouse’s fourth floor as required by Ansbach. Bring back the scroll to Ansbach on the first floor of the Storehouse.
What you need to complete before the Point of No Return
When you have handed the Secret Rite Scroll to Ansbach, his location will change, and can no longer be found in the Shadow Keep. Go to the Highroad Cross site of grace to meet Needle Knight Leda and you have to choose between siding with her or choosing Ansbach. Choose Ansbach so that he can assist you in the final battle.
Now if you have not completed the Hornsent questline, then you need to head over to the boss Messmer the Impaler, and defeat him. Once defeated, head left from the first floor of the Storehouse, take the elevator and travel all the way to reach the final boss Romina, Saint of the Bud.
Defeat Romina and head to the Sealing Tree which may seem old, withered, and about to die. Set fire to the tree using Messmer’s kindling. Make sure that you have completed all the side quests before doing this because most of the NPCs in the world will disappear after this.
How to defeat Lady Leda
Reach the Cleansing Chamber Anteroom site of grace, where you will start a battle with Needle Knight Leda. Here you can summon Ansbach by stepping on the summoning symbols.
Make sure you carry a build that inflicts high Bleed and Frost Damage so that you can counter their ability to heal. Dodge the attacks by rolling and keep looking for openings to counterattack. Taking too long for the first enemy will cause Dryleaf Dane to join the battle and you may now be required to summon your allies.
As soon as Dane appears in the battle, prioritize all your attacks on Dane and take her down rapidly before Lady Leda arrives. Once Lady Leda comes into the battle, keep close to her, since it will be easier to dodge her attacks at a short range. Dodge and roll Leda’s attacks and look for openings to counter.
