Final Fantasy 7 is getting a remake. It is just the beginning of a sub-series of reimaginings of the game. This will also bring different gameplay formulas. This remake brings the game to non-PS platforms. In addition, PlayStation Plus subscribers will also be getting a change.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT

  • Square Enix, the developer of the Final Fantasy series, has made the official announcement today.
  • PS Plus subscribers will be allowed a PS5 version upgrade from the 22nd of December.
  • At the beginning of the year, Square Enix faced backlash for constricting the Final Fantasy 7 Remake for the PS Plus version.

The PS5 version has some new improved features. This includes highly improved graphics, a new difficulty setting, better loading times, and a Photo Mode. In addition, players will be able to get the Episode Intermission DLC at a 25% discount rate. This will add story content for Yuffie, the fan-favorite character.

REASON BEHIND THE UPGRADE

  • The upgrade coincides with the Remake’s PC version release. This might imply that it has something to do with the exclusivity deal. However, no official information is available on this deal. Therefore, the reason behind the update is up for speculation.
  • Square Enix seems to be focusing on bringing Final Fantasy 7 Remake to an increased audience. Expanding from the PS platform is sure to bring more players to the popular game. Moreover, the added re-imagined story in itself is incentive enough for more players to experience the remake.

After the first part’s release, we can expect further parts in the sub-series to be available on the PS5. However, some of the other platforms are facing a little trouble at the moment. It was said that the PC platform suffers from a large number of performance issues. A debug build could be the cause for this. Xbox and Nintendo owners can only hope that such issues do not pop up for them.
