Wait, what? The once sensational Britain’s Channel 4 star revealed he was arrested in November of 2023 after being suspected of a strange crime. Jody Bunting, a former fitness guru on Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast, claimed the police took him in for an attempted murder case with the use of a popular sweet treat.
Cops booked Jody Bunting for allegedly trying to end a colleague’s life with … chocolate.
Yes, you’ve read that right. On November 2, 2023, while Bunting was returning after a vacation in Morocco, South Derbyshire police officers pulled up at the Luton Airport in London, England to arrest the former TV personality. Bunting was taken into custody following an incident where one of his colleagues in the Mickleover Court Hotel Leisure Club was sent to the Royal Derby Hospital’s intensive care unit after suffering a severe allergic reaction to chocolate. According to reports, the tragic incident happened on the 29th of October.
Jody Bunting was accused of “intentionally” poisoning an unnamed employee with the use of chocolate. In his defense, Bunting strongly denies the allegations and claimed he had nothing to do with it since he was still on a holiday vacation outside of the country. The 45-year-old fitness instructor was bailed out immediately but was given instructions not to contact co-workers and specific staff members from the club – where he had been working since 2017 – as well as visit the club itself.
Bunting was released but investigations were reportedly still going on. However, since his arrest in November, Bunting hasn’t heard from the authorities regarding the case’s progress. Derby Shire Police and the Mickleover Court Hotel have yet to make any comments. Months after being arrested, Bunting admits it’s difficult to explain why he was booked with an “attempted murder” case. But, after explaining, he claims people just laugh it out.
“It’s hard to just say ‘I got arrested for attempted murder’ and not explain the whys. When I tell people it’s over a piece of chocolate, they actually laugh out loud, which is even more amusing because of my slimming work and past.”, Bunting told Derbyshire Live.
Meanwhile, Jody Bunting continues to spread health and fitness awareness through social media
It’s worth remembering that he rose to fame after appearing in Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast from 2001 to 2002 where he held his own segment titled “Lost It With Jody”. He once became known as the man who reached the 31-stone weight mark but then slowly shredded some weight and became who he is now.
These days, Bunting is still giving fitness advice and online weight loss coaching, considering that he won’t be working as a group exercise instructor in the Mickleover Court Hotel Club anymore. In 2001, Bunting quit his call center job and pursued a career in teaching fitness. Since then, he’s found his way to help people change their lifestyles and inspire them to follow his footsteps.
My name is Jody Bunting, and I am addicted to food. Back when I weighed 31-stones, food was the main joy in my life, and this was the problem. I helped myself stop binging on boxes of crisps and gorging on packets of biscuits by adding hobbies and interests into my life. pic.twitter.com/ZdeXVriFQV
