Fortnite: How To Spectate Your Friend’s Match (Chapter 3, 2022)

Fortnite - Cover 1

A bunch of new content came with Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2. But one particular feature was missing which left players wondering what happened to the “Watch Game” option. Let’s talk about how to spectate your friend’s match in Fortnite. Read on to find out more.

How can I spectate my friend’s match in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2?

In the previous season, players were allowed to spectate their friends who were in-game. But with the new update, Epic seems to have removed the “Watch Game” feature unless you are in your friend’s lobby.

Once you are in your friend’s lobby, you have to wait thirty seconds after they start their game before you can begin spectating them. It’s not a long wait but still a bit of a downgrade from how easy it was to spectate friends in the previous update.

Moreover, you can only spectate strangers now if you get eliminated by them. Other than that, there’s no other option for you to spectate them unless they are live on Facebook Gaming, YouTube, Twitch, or other streaming services.

Why was the spectate feature removed?

There is no announcement from Epic regarding this change. But we can only speculate that they made this decision because of how rampant stream sniping is in Fortnite. If you don’t know what stream sniping is, it’s when a player watches another player’s stream to use it against them.

Players who stream snipe have the upper hand because they know where their opponents are. Additionally, this gives them the opportunity to flank or troll them just by watching their stream.

Hopefully, Epic decides to include the feature again but with better countermeasures against stream snipers. But if you really want to spectate your friends in Fortnite, just wait a few seconds in their lobby after they start the game.
