Here is everything you need to know about the latest Sumeru update in Genshin Impact 3.0. From the introduction of the Dendro element, new quests, characters and more, we’ve got you covered, Traveler!
Genshin Impact 3.0 is introducing the Sumeru region and Dendro element to Travelers
The latest special program was something Travelers have been looking forward to for a long time. In the past, the region of Sumeru was only talked about by NPCs or other characters who had already been there.
But every time the region is mentioned, we can’t help but wonder what wonders await us in the land governed by the Dendro Archon.
And since Genshin Impact has given us a glimpse into the new region, we’re honestly psyched to see it for ourselves. Genshin Impact’s special program also reveals the release date for the new update. On August 24, 2022, we’ll finally get to Sumeru.
Below are the things HoYoverse has in store for Travelers for Genshin Impact 3.0:
- Teyvat world map expansion with the Sumeru region
- Brand new Archon and world quests which lets us understand more of Teyvat’s rich history
- Dendro element finally being playable through Dendro Traveler and new characters
- New elemental reactions with the introduction of the Dendro element
Here’s a more in-depth look at the new content coming to Genshin Impact 3.0 in less than a week.
Travelers will be able to explore the rainforest area of Sumeru
According to the special program, the entirety of Sumeru won’t be accessible in the upcoming update. Instead of releasing the entire Sumeru region, it will be divided into two.
Travelers have access to the rainforest section of the new region which may let us explore and use Dendro in Genshin Impact. As for the desert part of Sumeru, we can expect this area to arrive in future updates.
Regardless, there are talks that Sumeru as a whole is the largest region so far in Genshin Impact. Furthermore, some Travelers believe that even if you put Mondstadt and Liyue together, Sumeru will still be larger.

With the information, we have so far, what we know about Sumeru is the nation is divided into two factions. One of these groups is working hard in keeping the Lesser Lord Kusanali the Archon of Sumeru. However, the other group has other plans for the region. Moreover, they aim to control and limit the knowledge of people.
To make sure that the wrong people don’t gain control over Sumeru, this is where the Traveler comes in. Together with new Sumeru characters like Tighnari and Nilou, the Traveler will work to protect the Dendro Archon and the people of Sumeru.
Aside from having factions, Sumeru is also facing a problem in terms of its environment. Though not much is revealed yet, it seems Sumeru’s ecosystem is in trouble. Travelers need to figure out just exactly what is causing these problems for the new region.
And finally, here are the events to expect in the new update:
- Graven Innocence
- Fayze Trials
- Table Analytics
- Lost Riches 3.0
Expect Dendro characters in the wish banners for Genshin Impact 3.0
The special program also revealed the Character Banners in the new update. Similar to other Genshin Impact updates, version 3.0 will be divided into two phases. Both phases contain both old and new characters which Travelers can pull for.
In the first phase, Zhongli is joined by the newest 5-star Bow character Tighnari. Additionally, he is the first 5-star Dendro character to be playable in Genshin Impact. As for the 4-star character, Travelers have the chance to obtain Collei through the limited-time wish banners.
On the other hand, Travelers looking to save their Primogems for other characters may still obtain Collei. There is going to be an event called Graven Innocence wherein Collei is given for free to all Travelers. So make sure to take part in this event if you want to add Collei to your collection!
If you’re undecided on whether you’ll pull for these two new Dendro characters, here’s what we know about them so far:
Tighnari is a 5-star Bow character with the Dendro element. Based on his kit, he sounds like the Dendro version of Ganyu. With that being said, it looks like Tighnari is fit for the role of either the team’s main DMG dealer or a sub DPS.
As for Collei, she is also a Bow user like Tighnari. However, what we know so far about her kit is she will make an excellent Support or sub-DPS character. Furthermore, some Travelers see her as the Dendro version of Amber because of her kit.
So if you’re looking for an excellent Dendro support character in Genshin Impact, Collei is your girl. And the best thing is you don’t even have to pull for her in case you’re saving your Primogems for another banner. Just make sure to participate in the Graven Innocence event to obtain Collei for free.
Moving on to the second phase of Genshin Impact 3.0, these are reruns of iconic 5-star characters. Travelers have the option to choose who to pull for between Ganyu and Sangonomiya Kokomi.
However, another new character is added to the roster of playable characters. Dori, a 4-star Electro character who wields a Claymore, is obtainable in the second phase. What we know about Dori’s kit so far is she makes a good Support character.
This is because her kit specializes in two things: healing and providing energy to her team. But if you already have a good Support character who can do those two things, we suggest setting aside your Primogems for future banners.
On the other hand, there’s a high chance you’ll get Dori if you plan on pulling for either Ganyu or Sangonomiya Kokomi. These characters are two of the most sought-after 5-stars in Genshin Impact as of writing.
Most Travelers would agree that Ganyu is the strongest DPS character so far in Genshin Impact. So if your team needs a reliable DMG dealer, you may want to consider pulling for Ganyu on her banner.
And as for the other 5-star character in Phase II of Genshin Impact 3.0, we have Sangonomiya Kokomi. When she was first released, Travelers underestimated her abilities as a Support character. However, her rerun with the Raiden Shogun was something Travelers looked forward to in the past.
Sangonomiya Kokomi is great for Freeze comps in Genshin Impact. But aside from making it easier to freeze enemies, Kokomi is a great healer.
If you have enough funds to pull for both 5-star characters in this phase, we won’t stop you from doing that. Both Ganyu and Kokomi are helpful to any team comp, so your Primogems will definitely not go to waste.
There will be new enemies once the new region is unlocked
And finally, what region would be complete without its own unique lineup of enemies? Similar to Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma, there is going to be a new World Boss located in Sumeru.
The Jadeplume Terrorshroom is arriving at Genshin Impact once the update launches and this is the latest World Boss in the game. Based on its preview during the special program, it looks like this World Boss is located deep in the rainforest of Sumeru.
What makes battling this World Boss exciting is the fact that it looks like a challenge to beat. Additionally, it will possess the Dendro element. So with that, the best strategy to fight against the Jadeplume Terrorshroom is by using a Pyro character. This is because the best element to use against Dendro is the Pyro element.
But from what we saw in the special program, it looks like this World Boss has protective measures against Pyro attacks. It will generate spores when it has a Burning status.
However, the special program did not reveal more about this Boss. So we’ll have to face off against it ourselves if we plan on finding out the best strategy to use against this World Boss.
Another World Boss arriving in Genshin Impact 3.0 is the Electro Regisvine. We’re curious to know what it will be like fighting against this Genshin Impact Boss. So it’s a good thing that the next update is arriving sometime next week.
That’s all you need to know about the newest update arriving in Genshin Impact. Sumeru sounds like an exciting region to explore, so we’re definitely looking forward to its release that’s coming in less than a week.
Do you think Sumeru will live up to the hype it’s getting now that Travelers know more about the new region? What are you looking forward to the most in the Sumeru update? And most importantly, who are you going to pull for in Genshin Impact 3.0?
