April 1, 2022 – Giannis Antetokounmpo made history as he passes the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the Milwaukee Bucks’ All-Time leading in points.

Giannis puts the cherry on top of the cake when he broke Kareem’s record in a very exciting fashion.

In a game against the Brooklyn Nets, Giannis went absolutely insane. He put up 44 points and 16 rebounds, plus the win over Irving, Durant, and the Nets.

With the clock winding down, Giannis made an unexpected move to force overtime – a step-back three over Andre Drummond. What is even more surprising is that that was the only three he made in the entire game. Additionally, this is his first-ever game-tying three (with 30 seconds or less) in his whole career.

The Greek Freak isn’t known as a great shooter but he has greatly improved his game since coming into the league. It is no doubt that this was a huge night for Giannis – a clutch three to force OT while also breaking the record. When asked how he feels about the game and the record, Giannis replied with:

“It’s good because I’m changing the narrative,” Antetokounmpo said with a wink while discussing the record. “I don’t want to be the guy only that dunks and runs. I can make a 3.”

After the matchup against the Nets, Antetokounmpo tallied 14,216 points, already passing the previous record held by Kareem (14,211 points). He accomplished a great feat at the very young age of 27. Though to be fair, Kareem only played 6 seasons with Milwaukee.

Giannis continues to solidify his case for MVP this season.

  • His last two games were against two of the best teams in the East (Sixers and Nets). Even though he went up against Embiid/Harden and Irving/Durant in two consecutive outings, he still got both wins.
  • The reigning finals MVP has greatly evolved into one of the most versatile players today. Currently, Giannis is a favorite for three major awards this season – MVP, DPoY, and Scoring Title.
