Hades 2 – What we know so far

The Game Awards 2022 had so many surprises. One of the most surprising ones to appear was Hades 2. The sequel to the Supergiant Games hit will find players deep in Greek mythology again, and this new direction has many players excited. Knowing about Supergiant’s track record means we’re in for another memorable game. Here’s what we’ve seen from the trailer and what we can expect from the sequel to the Game of the Year contender.

A New Character and New Story

The first part of the trailer reveals something different, as we are now playing a female protagonist instead. Players thought it would be a female version of Zagreus, but Supergiant later confirmed the answer. We will be playing another minor god and Zagreus’ sister Melinoe. She is seen training and is on the hunt to defeat Chronos.

We also see Hades imprisoned, likely taken over by Chronos himself. Some of the characters Melinoe meets tell her that defeating Chronos and taking control of time from the Titan is the solution. Melino is wielding different weapons. We also see the additions of new Gods to the sequel, such as Apollo, Nemesis, and Moros.

There is an interesting parallel with Melinoe’s story since she will travel down from above, deeper into the underworld. Zagreus fought many times to go to the surface in comparison. There have been no signs of Zagreus yet, but we’ll likely encounter him in the story. He may range anywhere from a cameo to an unlockable character while progressing.

Information on the Release

Hades 2 will follow the same path that its predecessor took. Supergiant Games will release it in Early Access in 2023 through the Steam Platform. They believe that the community’s contributions made Hades exceed all expectations. It is an example of how the early access system can lead to great gaming experiences with good development.

Whether you’re waiting on a full release or hope to dive in during Early Access, there is still a lot to uncover. It looks like we’ll be encountering new quirky NPCs, crazy blessing combinations, and a variety of new weapons.

Hades was a Surprise Hit

Hades took a lot of the gaming community by surprise during its release. It went on from being relatively unknown to being one of the top-streamed games for a while. Not only that, but there were a lot of promotions from popular content creators on YouTube and Twitch. Game reviewers also rated it as a must-play game, adding a layer of complexity to the Rogue-like genre.

Fans believe that Hades is the best example of how to do a Rogue-like right. You have a story that makes sense for the character restarting the adventure. The variety of combinations of enemies, blessings, artifacts and events increase its replayability. Players can also feel like each run they do matters as their character grows stronger and they slowly work towards completing the story.
