The Hades of Supergiant Games becomes the first of all video games to bag the prestigious Hugo Award. More than a year later, the game continues to have a huge influence on all major consoles and PCs. Undoubtedly, the game will expand even more now that it has won the Hugo Award. A permanent award is being considered, though it is a one-time prize introduced this year.
Hades has received numerous more accolades since its debut. This includes GDC’s Game of the Year and BAFTA’s Best Game, Artistic Achievement, Game Design, Narrative, and Supporting Actor (Logan Cunningham).
Hugo Awards
- Hugo Awards is basically a series of literary awards that are awarded to novels, artists, editors, and so on. These might range from science fiction to fantasy genres.
- The games which were nominated were among the finest in their categories. This included- The Last of Us 2, Spiritfarer, and Hades.
- Out of five games with great gameplay and plot, Hades was the winner. Given the Hugo Awards’ competitiveness and the level of quality, it deals with, that’s quite an accomplishment.
Yet, it is hardly a surprise that Hades would ultimately win. The Hugo Awards recognize fan fiction as a separate category. Hades is essentially a massive work of detailed and exquisite Greek mythology fan fiction. After all, not every game allows players to rejoin fallen lovers Achilles and Patroclus in the afterlife.
WorldCon 2021
- Since Worldcon 2021, the Administrative Subcommittee of the DisCon III Hugo Awards has managed the 2021 Hugo Awards. All decisions regarding admissibility and nomination handling are solely the responsibility of the committees.
- The DisCon III / 2021 Worldcon Hugo Awards homepage includes directions for accessing the online nomination form for the 2021 Hugo Awards as well as links to PDF copies of the paper-based nomination form.
- On Metacritic, Hades is the most played PS5 and Xbox Series X title. While both Worldcons 2020 and 2021 attendees are able to apply for the 2020 Awards, only Worldcon 2021 attendees can vote in the final vote.
