A lot of us love to watch horror movies but complaint about how shallow the horror was. So what makes us afraid? Well, besides personal reasons for getting scared, there are several sort of phenomenon that make us scared as a human being.

This new horror game called Hello Neighbor utilizes that fact. The irritating poking attitude of a bad neighbor is combined with the element of secretly stalking to make a tasty new horror theme.

Your prime enemy is your neighbor. And the neighbor AI actually learns and changes based on the decisions you take. Your neighbor will track you like an expert psychologist and learn from the mistakes you make. He will leverage this data and make the game more terrifying for you.

This “first person tactical puzzler” is a game where you will need to be really cautious to avoid losing. Developed by Tinybuild, the game features an excellent ambient lighting to play under. The graphics, however, are pretty mediocre as expected from an indie game. What makes it so unique is explained by the developer’s answer to the question about how does the AI work:

The Neighbor gathers all the information about the player’s actions, decisions, movements etc. Having analyzed it, he comes up with counter-actions, traps and a unique tactics against the player. The more one plays, the more experienced the Neighbor becomes.

If your neighbor gets you, you respawn at your place again with all your items gone. Your job is to avoid losing and infiltrating your neighbor’s house. The game is on Steam Greenlight as of now, and you can support it if you like the concept.

  1. Another First-Person horror game ?
Their ammount came to the point of me being unable to care in the slightest… No matter how good the game is itself I can’t make myself play it, because First-Person perspective makes me sleepy.
We are playing the same kind of horror game for… What, since those indy Slender-like shit started to flood Steam ?
Come back when there is something else on the table. Like a third-person tank-controlled fixed-camera-angle survival horror games comes back. Haven’t seen those since… Fuck, since 2003, I think.

    • I am glad I strongly agree with you. Game Developers think making a horror game FPS is the only way to scare gamers. But as much as I know, some third-person horror games are coming next year.
