If you’ve played through Horizon Forbidden West, then you might agree with the general opinion that the ending left us wanting more. In a recent interview with VG247, HFW’s creative director, Mathijs de Jonge hints at a possible sequel for Forbidden West.

Disclaimer that this article might contain spoilers for HFW. So if you’re still in the process of finishing the game, we recommend coming back to this article afterward.

Mathijs de Jonge says the game’s ending perfectly set up a window for a sequel to Horizon Forbidden West

According to de Jonge’s interview with VG247 on April 14, Forbidden West’s ending is enough to create a sequel.

“Horizon is really about mystery; each of our stories has been about uncovering mysteries in both the old world and the present day. … Indeed, there is plenty of backstory that we can tap into to develop new storylines and create new mysteries from what we’ve already established.”

Moreover, de Jonge revealed that Guerilla Games will be able to create a new story from the material they have right now. The sequel to Forbidden West is most definitely picking up from where it left after that ending with a cliffhanger.

However, not much was revealed about where Aloy’s new mission will take her next

Forbidden West ended with Aloy declaring she’s employing more help to fend off the stragglers invading Earth. “Aloy doesn’t solve all the problems that are basically set up in the story,” according to de Jonge. Although he was pertaining to after Zero Dawn, it’s likely they’ll use the same formula for the third game.

If the team at Guerilla Games follows through with the sequel to HFW, it’s definitely going to be interesting to see where the story goes. After that epic battle between Aloy and the Far Zenith, there are high expectations for the next game. If there’s one, that is.

We can only imagine how the rest of the Far Zenith will strike back after Aloy foiled their plans. And with HFW’s ending, there’s no denying that Aloy’s mission to defend against Earth’s invaders isn’t done yet.
