India has always dominated in the Under 19 World Cup. This year also India did the same. India won the ICC Under 19 World Cup 2022 final against England at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, West Indies. Earlier, India had won the U19 World Cup in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018.
England’s Worst Start
After winning the toss England Opt to bat first, England got off to the worst possible start as left-arm pacer Ravi Kumar picked two wickets (Jacob Bethell and Tom Prest) in the first four overs. George Thomas and James Rew tried to get the partnership going but Raj Bawa, the star in making, dismissed the opener as India took control over the game.
England kept losing wickets at quick intervals and was soon at 61\6 in the 17th over. However, James Rew kept fighting hard and scored a fifty to rescue his side from the dangerous position. Rew and James Sales put up a fifty-run stand to revive England’s innings. However, Rew missed a well-deserved century just for five runs as Ravi Kumar removed him in the 44th over.
England got all out at a score of 190. Now India had to make 191 to win World Cup for the fifth time.
The starting of the inning wasn’t good enough as Joshua Boyden dismissed Angkrish Raghuvanshi (0) on the third ball of the innings At this point in time everyone was wondering that the game might shift towards England’s side. But Harnoor Singh and Shaik Rasheed the duo put on 49 runs for the second wicket.
Indian batsmen were looking good, but suddenly England stormed right back into the contest in the 18th over as Thomas Aspinwall dismissed Harnoor (21), reducing India to 49/2.
The next partnership took place between the Indian captain Yash Dhull and Shaik Rasheed of 46 runs. Shaik Rasheed reached a fabulous fifty, but he could convert his fifty into a ton. He ended up giving his wicket away to James Sales. In his next over, Sales picked up the skipper Dhull (17), and India was reduced to 97/4.
Now England was back in the game as there were two new batsmen on the crease. The chances of winning the World Cup for England were increasing. However, Raj Bawa and Nishant Sindhu were on the crease to shatter England’s dream to win the World Cup.
Raj Bawa (35) and Nishant Sindhu (50*) then ensured that India does not lose wickets in a cluster. In the end, India registered a four-wicket win to lift the U19 World Cup for the fifth time.
