IPL 2022: What Happens If A Match Is Affected Due To Covid-19?

IPL 2022 is going to start in just a few days. However, the Covid-19 pandemic hasn’t ended yet. So, to avoid the spread, a separate bio-bubble has been created for each team.

Several other measures have been taken by BCCI.

However, despite these precautions, some players get affected by Covid, which affects the tournament. So the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket) has revealed what will happen if any match has been affected due to Covid.

Earlier, the ruling regarding if any match is affected due to covid was that the board will attempt to reschedule the match for later in the season. If this is not possible, the franchisee will be deemed to have lost the match; with its opponent being awarded 2 points.

BCCI has changed several rules in this IPL 2022.

“Unable to field a team on account of COVID for any match due to having less than 12 players available in the playing XI (of which at least 7 must be Indian) plus 1 substitute fielder.

The BCCI, at its discretion, will attempt to reschedule the match for later in the season. If this is not possible, the issue will be referred to the IPL Technical Committee. The decision of the IPL Technical Committee will be final and binding.”

This is a change from the previous rule which said that the franchise will not lose the match instead the IPL Technical Committee will take the decision. The decision seems rational as the team will not lose any points without playing a match.
