Master Detective Archives: Rain Code on Nintendo Switch

First things first, let’s look at the Nintendo page of Master Detective Archives. If we read through the specifications, we can see its supported play modes. The modes include TV, tabletop, and handheld modes, all under Nintendo Switch playing. Meanwhile, when you head over to Spike Chunsoft’s website, you can also see that the platform for the game only caters to Nintendo’s handheld console. So will it be a Switch exclusive?

  • During a Nintendo Direct, the game was confirmed, as so as it being a Nintendo Switch Exclusive. Yes, as of this moment and the day of its release, the upcoming video game can only be played on Switch.
  • You may also have the question “Why did they only make it a Switch exclusive?“, they gave some answers to that. The co-writer of the upcoming adventure and mystery game, Kazutaka Kodaka answers it in an interview with Denfaminicogamer.

  • According to Kodaka, having Switch as the only platform for the game came from the decision of the publisher (Spike Chunsoft), however, it did make sense. He added that there are many AA and A title that becomes long-buried or forgotten if made available on multiple platforms, but AAA should be a different case. Their game would be forced to compete with other AA and A titles if it’s available on multi-platforms. So along with the rest of the developers, Kodaka believes that this should be a wise decision made.
  • In a translated excerpt from the interview from Nintendo Everything, Kodaka states, “We’re going to release more promotional videos, some of which will feature the Mystery Labyrinth, so I hope the variety there catches people’s interest.”
