The CW is no longer working on a live-action Powerpuff Girls adaptation, according to a TVLine report. The same holds true for the Justice U spinoff of the Arrowverse, a Zorro series with a female lead, Jake Chang (which was to be based on a newish Archie Comics character), or any other planned series from the era of former CW president Mark Pedowitz.

Yana Perrault, Dove Cameron, and Chloe Bennet were chosen to play Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, respectively, in the live-action series. The show, unfortunately, never saw the light of the day.

The CW’s live-action series Powerpuff Girls concept met a sad end when TV Line recently announced that the network has decided not to move further with the idea. The Powerpuff Girls (PPG) was a beloved superhero animated series aired on Cartoon Network from 1998 to 2005. It was distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. Unfortunately, the live-action series has now been officially canceled.

The American television network, The CW, gave up on the reinvention of the beloved children’s show after two years of ongoing delays, rewrites, and recasts. Brad Schwartz, The CW’s president of entertainment, confirmed the news to TVLine on Thursday, May 18.

“We’ve already given those back to the studios,” Schwartz said to TVLine following the network’s Upfront presentation on Thursday morning, “so they’re free to develop those and sell them anywhere.”

  • As of this writing, there’s no news on whether the Powerpuff Girls’ live-action would happen on a different network or platform. We have to wait for that if ever it’s bound to happen!

Initially, the show’s pilot was shot in 2021. Despite this, the proposed script was extensively revised and the series was subsequently put on hold.

The show was intended to be a darker interpretation of the characters despite the fact that the popular animated series is kid-friendly and colorful. At first, it was revealed that Buttercup would have a drug problem. It is a topic that has little to no similarity with what the original animated series covered and prioritized.

The three superhero girls would have appeared in Powerpuff, the series’ possible name. They were supposed to be twenty-something adults who are bitter about giving up their childhoods to battle crime.

What is the plot of the original Powerpuff Girls?

This old and oriinal animated show was about Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup who are three kindergarten-aged girls with a variety of abilities. Once the good-hearted scientist Professor Utonium was working in his lab to create ideal young girls. He was doing it with a mysterious substance named Chemical X that he inadvertently added. The three supergirls then emerged from the substance.

The mayor of the city frequently asked the girls to use their skills to fight off enemies and local criminals. The young brave girls all resided in the fictitious city of Townsville with their father and inventor, Professor Utonium.

They then used their superhuman abilities to protect their village from villains and enormous creatures. At times, the girls also had to deal with typical childhood difficulties including sibling rivalry, loose teeth, personal cleanliness, going to school, bed-wetting, and dependence on a security blanket.

Episodes frequently made subtle allusions to earlier pop-culture. Each episode of the cartoon aimed to focus on a distinct idea. However, they also included a few little tributes and parodies.
