League of Legends: 180 Million Monthly Players

Are League of Legends LOL Servers Down? August 18, 2020 Complete Update

Riot Games has announced that they had experienced seeing more than 180 million unique monthly players, particularly in October, across Runeterra-based games.

The Runeterra games include games set in the League of Legends, the multiplayer online battle arena by Riot Games. This also includes League of Legends: Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, Fight for the Golden Spatula, and Teamfight Tactics.

Riot has not disclosed the title-wise numbers. However, Wild Rift seems to be bringing in a large addition to this number. This number is not the total number of accounts via account creation. These are the accounts for each game in October.

“Monthly active users (‘MAUs’) are defined as the number of players who accessed a game, and in this case, the calendar month of October. A player who accesses two of our games would be counted as two users.”

The number is huge, even when compared to the monthly users on the Steam platform. In 2020, Valve had announced that around 120 million monthly users were present on Steam. In addition, acknowledging that games such as Valorant are excluded makes the number seem even higher. This would have added another 14 million players.

This sets the ground for future releases within the League of Legends universe and can add greatly to their player base.
