Loki Season 2: What is Loki’s New Power?

Loki Season 2: What is Loki's New Power?

If there’s one thing that Loki Season 2 Episode 5 confirmed, it’s the fact that the God of Mischief has a new power that has been untapped (or misunderstood) for a long time. But what could this mean for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Will Tom Hiddleston’s Loki manage to save the TVA and fix the unravelling of the Sacred Timeline?

In the latest episode of Loki Season 2, the God of Mischief experiences both positive and negative developments. The episode opens with the revelation that the Temporal Loom explosion, feared to be a catastrophic event, didn’t result in utter destruction. Instead, it reset the Team TVA members to their original lives on the Sacred Timeline. While this seemed like a relief, there was a major drawback: Mobius, Hunter B-15, and others could no longer remember Loki or any events that occurred before the Loom’s explosion.

A notable exception was Sylvie, who retained her memories. She confronted Loki and resisted his attempts to reunite the team, pushing him to confront the underlying reason for his determination to restore the original timeline. He eventually admitted that he wanted his friends back and didn’t want to be alone, revealing that his motives were not entirely selfless.

But how will Loki manage to undo the impending disaster? Loki Season 2 writer Eric Martin discussed the God of Mischief discovered his new power simply by addressing his true goal.

Loki Writer Confirms Loki’s New Power

Eric Martin recently spoke to GamesRadar where he discussed how Loki’s conversation with Sylvie helped the God of Mischief realize his glorious purpose.

“Free will is at the heart of all of this and there’s no black and white here. It is just various shades of grey. Who is the one to grant free will? Is it anyone’s to grant? You could just let everything be chaotic and wild but if you do that, you’re also making a decision that’s impacting people,” Martin said.

“But I think what that conversation with Sylvie also does is that we see all of that fall apart,” he continued. “Loki goes back into that moment and is like, ‘Yeah, I care about these people. This is worth saving. I need to save them. I can save them.’ Ultimately, that’s what opens up his ability to control the time-slipping. So now he has that ability and he’s going to try to save his people.”

Can Loki Fix The TVA Through His New Power?

Interestingly, time-slipping was initially viewed as Loki’s first major problem in the Season 2 premiere. However, the new revelation marked a significant moment of character development for Loki. It humanized him, highlighting his vulnerability and the longing for companionship and connection.

It also added depth to his character, as his actions throughout the series were now seen in a more complex light. The episode left viewers with a deeper understanding of Loki’s motivations and emotions, setting the stage for further character exploration and plot development as the series approaches its conclusion. So does this mean that Loki has finally abandoned his mischievous ways and is ready to become a hero with his new power? Fans are eager to find out later this week.

The exploration of themes such as identity, connection, personal growth, and his new power adds depth to the story and keeps viewers engaged in the evolving narrative. Needless to say, fans are already looking forward to the epic conclusion of the MCU series that could offer a glimpse at things to come in the next Marvel projects.

Loki Season 2 Episode 6 will be the final one for the series, at least for now. There are still hopes that the show will be renewed for Season 3 but this has not yet been officially announced by Marvel Studios and Disney. In the meantime, the season finale will air on Disney+ on November 9, 2023.
