Memphis Grizzlies suspends Ja Morant for 2 games after controversial gun video; Will he be arrested?

NBA Suspends Ja Morant

Following the alleged assault on a 17-year-old teen and threats with a gun, the Memphis Grizzlies superstar is again in hellfire after displaying his gun in an Instagram live video. With his latest controversy, the Grizzlies have informed that Ja Morant will be out for at least the next two games.

Last Friday, Ja Morant posted a live stream on Instagram while showing off his gun in a nightclub

Hours after losing to the Denver Nuggets last Friday, Ja Morant was seen partying in a nightclub via his IG Live. In the video, the two-time All-star can be seen shirtless while rapping along to the background music. Everything was harmless until he flashed what seemed to be a pistol.

The 23-year-old was just in the headlines after another controversy resurfaced through a report from The Washington Post. Morant, 23, allegedly punched a 17-year-old high schooler last year during a basketball pick-up game in his Memphis mansion.

The NBA now opens an investigation with regard to Morant’s gun video

NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement on Saturday that “We are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating”. According to the Memphis Grizzlies, they are willing to suspend or fine Ja Morant if proven guilty of wrong actions. But, in the meantime, Morant will stay on the sidelines for at least two games, which are against two Los Angeles teams (Lakers and Clippers).

Meanwhile, Ja releases a statement about the allegations surrounding him. In his own words, he is “going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being”.

Despite the gun video, assault case, and all, Nike supported their newest feature athlete

After Ja Morant publicly released an apology, Nike also followed up with a statement supporting Morant and his time away from the league. “We appreciate Ja’s accountability and that he is taking the time to get the help he needs,” the statement read. “We support his prioritization of his well-being.”

Ja had just unveiled his first signature shoe with Nike back in December 2022. In addition, a few days ago, the star point guard became the new face of Powerade in a multi-million dollar deal.

The latest updates on his assault case: Will he be arrested?

The alleged victim and his mother filed a lawsuit on September 9, 2022, against Ja Morant and his long-time friend Davonte Pack. Since then, the case has been kept from the public and the investigation is still ongoing.

However, in January of this year, the Shelby County prosecutor’s office and the police said that they are “aware of the incident, and after careful review of the facts, decided that there was not enough evidence to proceed with a case.”
