Must-watch series on Disney Plus on Star Wars Day

As May 4th approaches, fans all around the world are getting ready to celebrate Star Wars Day. Carrie Fisher, the legendary Princess Leia from the Skywalker Saga, will be given a Walk of Fame in Hollywood on the said celebration. 

Disney Plus has gifted fans with some amazing series that have kept them busy all year. Be it Mandalorian or Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars fans are looking for innovative ways to celebrate this day with full poise and grace.

Star Wars Day: Exploring 5 series to watch on Disney Plus 

1) The Mandalorian

No. of Episodes: Season 1, 2, & 3: 8 episodes.

Approx. Runtime: 30-45 minutes.

Release Date: November 12, 2019.

Addressing the elephant in the room, with the most famous Star Wars series on Disney Plus: The Mandalorian. Baby Yoda or Grogu (who is Din Grogu now) has taken over social media, making everyone adore his cuteness. With Pedro Pascal being the main star of the show, the fans are very impressed with his portrayal of Din Djarin the Mandalorian. 

The story takes place after the Imperials are overthrown and the New Republic is now setting a new world order. However, Imperials are still in existence and want to eliminate the existing Jedis. Mando or the Mandalorian Din Djarin is a bounty hunter who gets a bounty to locate this young Jedi the Imperial Guild requires.

The young Jedi is none other than Grogu and Mando grows soft on him, rescuing him from his untimely peril or experimentation. The story revolves around Mando’s adventures with Grogu and about the restoration of Mandalore to its former glory.

The series is not only famous for Grogu’s cuteness and Pedro Pascal’s impeccable acting, but it is beloved by the fans for Giancarlo Esposito’s amazing portrayal of Moff Gideon, the main antagonist of the show. The fans are absolutely in love with him for his impeccable portrayals of negative roles be it in Breaking Bad or The Boys


2) Obi-Wan Kenobi

Release Date: May 27, 2022.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is another one of the beloved series on Disney Plus. Ewan McGregor has reprised his role as Obi-Wan, making fans nostalgic about the Skywalker Saga. However, the surprise not only ends with Ewan being back as Obi-Wan; Hayden Christensen has also reprised his role as Anakin Skywalker or Darth Vader in the series. The fans were extremely excited to see this amazing duo on the screen once again and relive their nostalgia. 

The story takes place after 10 years post Order 66 where Inquisitors are still hunting Jedis and leading them to extinction. Obi-Wan Kenobi has disguised himself as Ben Kenobi and is living in exile to look after Luke Skywalker in Tatooine. Reva Sevandar, the Third Sister of the Inquisitors under the Galactic Empire, is searching for Obi-Wan to bring him to Darth Vader. 

In this segment, to reach Obi-Wan, Reva kidnaps young Princess Leia and baits Obi-Wan Kenobi to rescue her. The story gives a good background to Princess Leia’s acquaintance with Obi-Wan as shown in Star Wars IV: A New Hope


3) The Bad Batch

No. of Episodes: Seasons 1 & 2: 16 episodes.

Approx Runtime: 29 minutes.

Release Date: May 4, 2021

The next one to watch is an animated series. The Bad Batch is directed by Dave Filoni, and serves as a sequel to the Star Wars series and movie: The Clone Wars

The story takes place right after the Clone Wars when the Clone Force 99 or The Bad Batch, a group of elite Stormtroopers with different kinds of genetic mutations, act as mercenaries and take on missions to eliminate threats across the galaxy. The Bad Batch also plays a major role in resisting Order 66 as well. After the execution of Order 66, the Bad Batch became the fugitives of the Galactic Empire and were hunted by the Imperials. 

The Bad Batch is an intriguing series that has made the fans understand the various brutal shortcomings of Order 66. The Order 66 did not only bring the Jedis to their extinction but was also majorly responsible for brutalities taking place in different spheres of the galaxy. 


4) The Book of Boba Fett

No. of Episodes: 7

Approx Runtime: 30-45 minutes.

Release Date: December 29, 2021.

This was one of the most awaited series among Star Wars fans in 2021. 

The Book of Boba Fett starts post-establishment of the New Republic where Boba Fett,  tries to re-establish his grip on the criminal underworld. Assisted by Fennec Shand, an elite mercenary and assassin during the Galactic Empire to tighten his grasp on Jabba’s underworld territory. 

In this series, Mark Hamill and Rosario Dawson reprise their roles as Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano. The fans are going gaga over this particular series and it is one of the most beloved Star Wars offerings on Disney Plus. 


5) Andor

No. of Episodes: 12

Approx Runtime: 30-45 minutes.

Release Date:  September 21, 2022.

Saving the last for the best, Andor is another beloved series among Star Wars fans. Tony Gilroy has directed this series and it has been etched in the hearts of the fans. 

The story acts as a prequel to the film Star Wars Rogue One (2016) and Star Wars IV: A New Hope (1977). The main protagonist is Cassian Andor, who is a rebel spy. The story revolves around the establishment of the Rebel Alliance that leads to Rogue One and The New Hope. The story of Andor, a resident of Kenari follows as he changes from a thief to becoming an integral part of the Rebel Alliance. 

This series is a must-watch because fans have adored Diego Luna for his role as Cassian Andor. The story is a mix of all spices of tragedy, comedy, and of course,  the advent of the Rebel Alliance.
