NBA: Why did Shannon Sharpe apologize to Dillon Brooks?

Shannon Sharpe

Last Friday, during the Lakers versus Grizzlies game, NBA insider and Undisputed’s host Shannon Sharpe had an intense exchange of words with Dillon Brooks, as well as Steven Adams, Ja Morant, and Tee Morant (Ja’s father). Sharpe wanted all the smoke against the Grizzlies and he did not seem to back down even though the behemoth Steven Adams was coming near him. However, days after the incident, Sharpe made a public apology live on-air in his show The Undisputed. To learn more about their recent altercation, read more below.

A few hours ago, Shannon Sharpe took the high road and addressed the elephant on the room as he apologized for what he said during the Lakers-Grizzlies match.

In his talk show Undisputed (with Skip Bayless), Sharpe took the moment to ask for forgiveness on his recent altercation with Dillon Brooks and the whole Memphis Grizzlies.

“I’ve preached for the last six and a half years responsibility and accountability, and I take full responsibility for what transpired. I’m never gonna say that wasn’t Shannon Sharpe because that was me. That was just me getting out of character. And I’m sorry for all those that saw my actions and took offense to my actions…”

Sharpe also added that he claims it was his fault and that he should have not let it get out of hand. “It does not matter what Dillon Brooks said or how many times he said it. Me being the responsible person, having the platform that I have, and having so many people look up to me, I was wrong. I should have lowered the temperature in the arena. Instead, I turned the temperature up, and I let it get out of hand.”

WHAT CAUSED THE TENSION BETWEEN SHANNON SHARPE AND DILLON BROOKS?

Sharpe is undoubtedly a huge LeBron James fan. Last week, as he was watching the LBJ’s Lakers go against Ja’s Grizzlies, some words were exchanged between him and Memphis forward Dillon Brooks. Through the first half of the game, Sharpe was already trashtalking Brooks that “he can’t guard LeBron” and that he is “too small”. Brooks clapped back with the F-word in which Sharpe instinctively cussed back.

Tension was already rising just after the buzzer for halftime as Brooks, Adams, and the Morants were already going after Sharpe. During halftime, Shannon shared the full exchange between him and the Grizzlies.

“They didn’t want this smoke. They do all that talking and jockeying and I ain’t about that jockeying. It started with Dillon Brooks. I said he was too small to guard LeBron. He said, “F—‘ me. I said ‘F—‘ you back. He started to come at me and I said, ‘You don’t want these problems.’ And then Ja came out of nowhere talking. He definitely didn’t want these problems. Then the dad came and he obviously didn’t want no problems. But I wanted anything they had. Don’t let these fools fool you now.”
