Netflix Avatar The Last Airbender Live action series - What we know so far

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the beloved Nickelodeon original animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender (ATLA), has finally wrapped up production for its first season, and fans can’t wait any longer. To know everything about the show, read more below.

In this article, you will be finding out everything we have learned so far about the newest adaptation of ATLA. Since the filming began in November last year, fans of the cartoon series have been eager to take a first look at the newest live-action adaptation made by Netflix.

Although we have seen a similar project back in 2010 by M. Night Shyamalan, it was a film that definitely did not reach expectations. Many thought that Shyamalan botched the story of the Avatar.

However, with Netflix’s latest project, they promised that it will be true to the animated series of the same name. Thus, it will follow the original script from the previous one.

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER CAST

The actors and actresses that will portray the titular character, as well as other members of the “Gaang” (Sokka, Katara, Zuko), have already been named back in April. Other supporting characters too have been announced following the main characters.

  • The Last Airbender and the chosen Avatar, Aang, will be played by 12-year-old Gordon Cormier.
  • The brother and sister duo of Sokka and Katara will be played by young stars Ian Ousley and Kianwetiio Tarbell, respectively.
  • The exiled crown prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko, is also joining the scene from a portrayal by Dallas Liu who also acted as Ruihua in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings.

As promised, the live-action series will follow the original The Last Airbender storyline.

  • The story begins with Avatar Aang being released by Sokka and Katara from an iceberg that put Aang in cryogenic sleep for a hundred years.
  • Their rollercoaster journey will follow a team of unexpected marvels that will save the world from the hands of the terrible Fire Nation.
  • Along their way, Aang must master all four elements (Air, Water, Earth, and Fire) to be able to beat Fire Lord Ozai.

In addition to that, it was also reported that Season 1 will feature 8 to 10 hour-long episodes. Hopefully, the first season covers the entirety of ATLA’s Book 1.

Avatar: The Last Airbender RELEASE DATE

  • Sorry to say, but Netflix hasn’t given any announcement regarding a release date yet. Although they finished filming last month, there is still no telling if we will get to see the “Gaang” on TV this year.
  • The most possible release date could be early next year, 2023. Before that, you might want to indulge in the animated series of Aang and his successor, Korra, which are now both available on Netflix.
