Bird Box caught a lot of hype after its initial release in 2018. Starring Sandra Bullock, the story focuses on a woman and her children to make it to a safe haven in a post-apocalyptic world. The catch? The monsters in this world can only chase after you when your eyes are open. They’ll have to make the entire trip blindfolded to survive.
While the premise can be a little convoluted, Bird Box builds a lot of suspense throughout the film. There are a lot of tense moments, and Bullock’s acting carries the film.
4. Red Notice
Red Notice featured a trio of stars, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson. The names alone should warrant attention, especially since you have The Rock (Black Adam), Wonder Woman, and Deadpool in the same film. The story follows one of the world’s most wanted art thieves and an Interpol agent looking to catch him.
Both are pulled into a ploy to catch one of the world’s most desirable treasures. Red Notice has many twists and turns to keep it an enjoyable action-comedy.
3. Don’t Look Up
Don’t look up features a star-studded cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, and Meryl Streep. It tells the story of a grad student and her professor discovering a comet that will eventually collide with earth. The issue is that no one seems to be listening to their discovery. As such, the two take matters into their own hands, traveling the country on a media tour to hopefully convince people.
While it does tackle a heavier subject, the film does well in mixing humor with the story. It isn’t for everyone, but its satirical nature makes it interesting.
2. The Gray Man
The Gray Man also caught attention with its duo of leads, Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. It also received hype because of the Russo brothers involvement, known for their work in Marvel. The action film tells the story of a CIA agent who discovers dark secrets hidden in the agency. As such, a bounty is on his head, and he must try to survive it while uncovering the truth.
What’s interesting about this film is Chris Evans is in the role of the villain. The film has a good story and great action pieces. It remains entertaining from beginning to end.
1. Glass Onion (2022 Netflix Release)
A recent entry yet undoubtedly at the top of this list, the Knives Out sequel Glass Onion is the best in this list. Daniel Craig returns once more as the world’s greatest detective Benoit Blanc to try and solve a mystery on an island owned by a billionaire. The film features an ensemble cast including Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, and Kathryn Hahn.
Fans can expect the unexpected when it comes to Glass Onion, with many layers to unfold. Those who liked Knives Out will enjoy Glass Onion. Those encountering it for the first time will find there’s a lot to enjoy in this film.
