Dimensional Ink Studios, the mastermind studio behind DC Universe Online, is apparently working on a new MMO rooted in the Marvel world.  This is according to a presentation published by an investor by Enad Global 7. The project’s concept art was initially released in 2019, showcasing character designs for a Marvel MMO which never really got off the ground at Daybreak.

An “unannounced MMORPG” that will be a “Marvel IP-based large multiplayer online game” has been referenced. The project is led by ex-City of Heroes leader Jack Emmert, who is now in charge of the DC Universe Online team.

Marvel spent the last few years developing video games based on Marvel Comics heroes following the success of Insomniac Games. Crystal Dynamics published Marvel’s Avengers in 2020.

Marvel MMO

  • Furthermore, Eidos Montreal’s Guardians of the Galaxy launched this year. Insomniac Games also confirmed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine.
  • Marvel has licensed its IP to a multitude of separate developers, but this was to be expected. However, it is startling to learn of more Marvel games in the works, especially if there’s an MMORPG.

Jack Emmert is apparently going to manage the forthcoming Marvel MMO. Emmert co-founded Cryptic Studios and became the director of City of Heroes. Given DCUO’s reputation, it’s really no surprise that the firm behind it is also working on a Marvel MMO. Given the scale of the DC Universe Online hero pool, we expect that this Marvel initiative might incorporate characters from all corners of the Marvel multiverse.
