Nuclear Warfare: Study Reveals What Could Happen to Earth

With conflicts in Ukraine leading to more threats from both sides, one thing remains possible. Nuclear warfare could potentially devastate one or more countries in the event when one goes beyond the line. Russian President Putin has already alluded to Russia being ready to use it when necessary. Even the US is developing low-yield nuclear weapons.

Countries are now ignoring past treaties and are developing nuclear weaponry despite them. With these threats on the horizon, Princeton’s Science and Global Security program analyzed the impact of these nukes.

Plan A

Even using a low-yield nuclear weapon, 34.1 million could die within the first few hours of a nuke hitting land. Around 57.4 million others could be injured. That’s only the tip of the iceberg, considering the ramifications of nuclear radiation affecting a once-populated area. The radioactive fallout would lead to more deaths, and the Earth’s atmosphere would cool down. That would mean that most flora and fauna native to that area would die out.

Plan A isn’t the first time tests were done to simulate nuclear warfare. In 2013, the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War also held a simulation. A nuclear exchange between Pakistan and India could kill 2.3 billion due to global cooling causing starvation.

The US plans to develop low-yield nukes to minimize damage, but it still comes at a cost. No country should entertain the nightmare of nuclear war.

Despite all the threats, the conflicts in Ukraine seem to be standard warfare. Both sides seem to be honoring the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons.
