Obsidian Entertainment was founded in 2003 by ex-employees of Black Isle Studios. The studio is reportedly working on a game called Pentiment. While we know that the studio is developing the early access version of Grounded and other AAA RPGs such as Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, an unannounced project from the studio has just been revealed.

  • The information comes from Windows Central, telling us that a new game called Pentiment is under development by Obsidian Entertainment. The project is reportedly going to be an investigative RPG, which would be similar to games such as Disco Elysium.
  • This means that the game might have a greater emphasis on investigations, choice and consequence mechanism, and dialogue choices in a plot centered around a murder mystery set in 16th century Europe. A piece of concept art is also available in the report by Windows Central. See the image below.

The report from Windows Central tells us that the game is under the development of a team of 12, headed by Josh Sawyer. Sawyer is known for his role in directing both the Pillars of Eternity games and Fallout: New Vegas.

Other reporters such as Jeff Grubb and Rand al’Thor have also spoken about the Pentiment project. The studio might be targeting a release in 2022. If this is true, we might be hearing an announcement from Obsidian Entertainment soon.
