One Piece Film: Red Earnings in Box Office Is Huge!

Directed by Goro Taniguchi who is famously known for Code Geass, One Piece Film: Red nearing its 2nd month of theatrical release dominates the Japanese box office. The film has sold over 8,618,377 tickets and earned about 12 Billion Yen which estimates to be about 86 Million in US Dollars. One Piece Red’s now most nearby goal should be to outdo Jujutsu Kaisen 0 which made over 13 Billion yen in 2021. One Piece Film: Red is huge and yet one may be curious how huge it compares to the cultural phenomena named Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.

To add to its list of accolades, One Piece Film: Red has topped Top Gun: Maverick which stood with an earning of 11 Billion Yen as per Top Gun’s latest record of August 28. Although this may be temporary, as Top Gun is still on with its theatrical run. Both films clash with each other in very close margins. Both films are the highest grossing in Japan this year so far.

As one may notice, Demon Slayer at the domestic box office did not do better than what One Piece Film: Red is doing. This has to be justified by the argument that Demon Slayer was released amidst a worldwide pandemic. The majority of Demon Slayer Mugen Train’s earnings come through worldwide earnings. In comparison Demon Slayer Mugen Train in the Japanese theatres didn’t do that well. Of its total earnings, only ten percent came from the domestic box office while 89% of the earnings happened worldwide earning $453,210,959.
